To watch an ideal case of husband pushing and sacrificing for his wife's education, please watch Aanandi Gopal on Zee5. It is in Marathi but with subtitles.
- Gopaldas is a widower who lost his first wife to sickness but still loves her dearly and remembers her often.
- He deliberately agrees to marry a child, after trying to look for a widow to marry, but no family would let a widow remarry. But put a very strong condition that she should study after marriage.
- He doesn't come to pick her up till she "came of age" and let her stay at her parents, inspite of objection from a lot of people.
- He threatens her and her parents after marriage that he will leave her if she doesn't study and learn English by the time she is ready to leave her home with him.
- Transfers from his village to the city so that she can study without issues.
- Quizzes her about academics all the time, ensures their new house should have a big library.
- Uses all kinds of tactics to get Aanandi admission in an all-British girls school.
- Faces taunts of his villagers and garbage dumped at his door for educating a woman, Aanandi also faces torture and discrimination from her British classmates.
- Aanandi doesn't like his obsession with her education one bit and even hates him for it.
She even cribs about it to mother of Gopaldas' first wife who is also a widow and lives with them to take care of Gopaldas' son from his first wife, so that Aanandi can study.
- But she gets pregnant and faces complications due to infection and early pregnancy. Her child also dies shortly after birth. Then she decides to be a doctor.
- After that Gopaldas goes to so many lengths like writing letters to Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania (there were no medical colleges for women in India), collecting money for her travel to the US, even agreeing to convert to Christianity to get a seat at college.
- His efforts bear fruit and she becomes the first Indian female doctor of Allopathy.
The point is, he did threaten her with abandonment when he was not taken seriously.
Ani went on that route too, but CVs here are not treating this track right for it to be an inspiring story. Maybe to appease audiences who think however high a woman flies, she should never forget her ultimate goal is to be a good wife. This is why Bon was not made to realize her mistakes sooner or even study just to please Aniruddh.
