I live in Berkeley, my parents are from India (I was born there too), but I only started watching hindi soaps last year when my mom was watching Anupama one day, and I sat down and after I got up all I could talk about was how evil all these MILs are in these shows that she watches, and then she was like "you might get a mil like that", I told my mom, "if I ever got a vamp saas, I would murder her in the first few episodes, just to up the ratings (TRP)." My fake reason for watching these serials is to better my Hindi, because I only know "bollywood" hindi...but getting obsessed with Shakhi has made me into such a weirdo...i'm reading hindi forums and the hindi from the youtube videos that have the mostly fake spoilers, and honestly even my speaking hindi is better now.

But I will say, when Anokhi's dad said that, my mom and I took it as a hilarious joke because obviously Anokhi is a freaking genius right, and my dad (he's tamilian and his hindi's not great, so he doesn't watch these shows), I decide to tell him the joke but added "how many sins did you commit dad because you have TWO daughters" :D
