That’s true, there have been many BW actresses who were considered beautiful and lauded for their fine thespianism too

Her aunt and father’s onscreen romantic partner Sridevi is a prime example... And she was not an outlier

But there was a time when national awards were given exclusively to non glamorous and sometimes plain looking female actors...

I agree that average looking or ugly looking actors are considered the best actors of this generation even though they have one single expression on their face like a wooden actor or they overact and loud. Sonam is pretty and she is weak with her voice when she is delivering her lines, she needs to learn from vidya balan and how to act and deliver lines with strong power. Sonam is not a good actor especially when she cries it looks fake but I still liked her in romantic comedy movies

even best actor not so great looking

i think mamotty and mohanlala and kamal hassan have highest national awards for acting

but they are great actors too compared to Bollywood heroes

watch drishyam to know why? ajay devgan is nothing in front of mohan lal

mohan lal may not have 6 packs like ajay but he gets into skin of character like anything

same for kamal and mamotty and many other south heroes

Just looked up the list. Most were reasonably pretty. They just gave the awards for more grounded roles, which is to be expected. I mean, the 1st winner was Nargis. Rekha, Sharmila, Waheeda - they were all beauties. Smita and Shabana were reasonable looking. Tabu was somewhere in between. I recognize some south Indian names, too.

That's the thing. Most of BW audience hasn't even watched really good acting. How many peeps in BW who can match Fahad or Soubin or Prithvi? Rajkumar Rao and Nawaz... anyone else at all?

i know south make some stupid movies

but actors are good even today in terms of acting

be it ntr, shivaji ganeshan, rajkumar or gopi of 60s

be it kamal hassan, mamotty and mohanlal, vishnuvardhan of 70s, 80s

or be it sudeep, prithvi or vijay of 90s and 2000s

or prabhas, fahad after 2000s

they know acting better than Bollywood heros

even heroines were very good actress till mid 2000s or 2010

now its all glamour amd fair skin for heroines no much acting req except one or two here there

Agree but I was strictly talking about female actors, you know actresses only

Most National awardees were non glamorous, non gorgeous looking, at least in the role for which they won... Many Malayalam, Bengali actresses used to win I think

She is good looking and is a bad actress lol😆
