Coming from Sonam who is notorious for privileged and airheaded this quote seems obnoxious, but it's so true. It reflects on how society behaves. There is an assumption that good-looking people get ahead in life on their looks alone. Even when good-looking people are immensely successful their looks are more talked about than their accomplishments. Similarly, when people are not stunning lookers it is assumed they are immensely talented or worked their ass off to be successful. Ordinary and less than ideal-looking people get praised and appreciated for mediocrity. We tend to overemphasize their accomplishments to shy away from discussing their looks.
😂 its reassuring to know that some people never change.😂. In this case, Sonam Kapoor is sounding as dumb as ever. She should know that she herself is a prime example of neither looks nor great acting, disproving her assertion 😂
By the way, I don't get all that attitude she has. Does she think that wearing fancy costumes, putting on a stupid smile and walking around like a tall giraffe make her good looking? 😂
She was stupid when she said it, she’s stupid now and she will always be stupid. End of story.

At the time I thought she was the biggest Air Head! She still might be. But I agree with this comment, although I wouldn't put it quite that way, not sure how but maybe try to sound kinder. But she says what she says - it's clear.
If we look at the science of what she says rather than the possible offensive element, we can decode her theory.
"Ugly" people are instantly more interesting on screen. An asymmetrical face, wrinkles, large moles, birth marks or whatever is considered not "beautiful" gives "character" to an actor/actress. We see someone on screen who isn't stunning and we just notice their expressions of the character they are playing. When someone is stunningly beautiful, like Aishwarya Rai, her beauty takes away from the performance in some way. Remember that notion that "models can't act" - maybe it was an internal bias of us, the audience.
But then again, the most beautiful woman in the world: Madhuri Dixit is also one of the greatest actresses in the world, ever. However, that doesn't make it a null point. It's like saying "Beyonce is the biggest pop star in the world, that means racism has ended" - nope!
There are BEAUTIFUL stunners who are considered EXEMPLARY actresses/actors. But there are also some stars who may be not so "conventionally hot" and that makes us think they are amazing actors, an example for me personally would be: Rajkummar Rao. I do think he's cute, but he won't be winning "World's Sexiest Man" anytime soon. And I don't think he's a great actor: just watch The White Tiger and Shimla Mirchi. (although he was splendid in Shahid) - what I am saying is, he is very limited, and not worth the hype. Okay bye.
Rajkumar Rao is limited🤣.
I agree with this statement in general, but ironically enough, the context in which she said it which is basically to justify her own lack of acting skills, is complete bullshit. She's pretty bit she isn't a good actress except in 2-3 films.
In general, why I agree with it is because certain actors like Hrithik and Deepika are talked about more in terms of looks than their acting skills, and the latter being pretty good. It is almost as if looks eclipse their performances, overshadows their acting chops.
The reverse is also true. Certain average actors are hyped up no end even if they have only mediocre or bad acting skills, because the focus is more on trying to find some merit at any cost. The latest example being Janhvi Kapoor, she's really no good in terms of looks or acting, but somehow people believe she's a better actress than pretty Ananya.
Cool, but Pankaj Tripathy is still a boring actor.

I don't get the hype around her fashion sense cuz any girl can be a "fashionista" if they appear overdressed everywhere in Chanel and Versace.😆 Deepika, Katrina and Kangana also have a great fashion sense so to speak... why only Sonam got all the accolades for her fashion sense is something that's beyond me.

Lol the sheer irony of this is that it only applies to some of her fellow nepo-kids (*cough* Alia)...
And it most definitely does not apply to Sonam herself, she is a genuinely bad actress who just happens to be pretty, the two have no connection and this infamous quote just reads like sour grapes at the fact that even the most chaploos of critics and media people simply couldn't call her a good actress 😆
