Ayushman has a movie coming out?

There's a bunch ... from Doctor G to Chandigarh ke Aashiqui or something like that.😆 A recent pattern I've noticed lately, especially after that Sadak 2 disaster, is that they've been strategically pairing up hated nepo kids with desirable outsiders .... and while that makes a good business sense, we all know it's being done to benefit the nepo kid in the equation. I don't expect people to care about that though.

Nepotism is harmful on several counts. While it exists in every industry, the person usually starts as an apprentice and works their way up... unless its someone's private business. They seldom start at the top. Star-kids on the other hand pretty much start at the top- after all, actors are at the top of the pyramid in their industry, above the thousands others who are technicians etc.

To the extent that the industry behaves in this crony manner to limit outside competition, it should not get any of the benefits that come with being recognized as a full-fledged industry.

nepotism also shortchanges consumers. We don't get the benefit of seeing actors who made it through a competitive process. Every time they pick one of the useless star-kids, we miss out on someone who could potentially have been a better actor... and entertained us more.

in fact with some of the star kids we have had lately, we should sue the idiots who brought them in for their crony behavior. These star kids have been that bad. 😂

😂 like some politicians might say, I feel your pain. 😉 😉 😉

the only way people like KJo and Bhansali and Shetty will change their crony ways is when they face competiton from OTT and others. Till then, they can pretty much take in any actor/ ress and it will make very little difference to their bottom line. These characters need incentive to change. 😊

It's been a pleasure bumping into you too, Mr. Birdie.😆 Yeah and that incentive so far as been royal kicks in their butts in the form of YouTube dislikes by the audience and the rise of OTT, esp. during covid. Yet... we hear things like oh, it's the audience who makes them. Anyways.

😂 bumping into is fine. As long as it's not a Don Corleone kind of bumping off. 😂

Dont really care whether they are a product of Nepotism or outsiders, as long as they are talented.

At the end of the day, audience has rejected below average maal like Uday Chopra, Eisha Deol and countless others..even Abhishek - even though he has carried a movie like Guru so well on his shoulders, does not get as many offers or isnt an audience darling, just because he is a Bachchan.

If you have talent and right attitude towards the job, you will sustain..otherwise you will perish. and I will be honest, things are not as bad for outsiders as its made out to be, specially after OTT platform has arrived on the scene, maybe they dont get a chance on celluloid..but they are definitely getting opportunities now to come on OTT - where they actually have a much wider audience and are able to deliver to the classes.

Nepotism exists, and it's killing the business. Outsiders either have to be insanely well-connected or at the top of their game to succeed.

Look at Sanya Malhotra. She has the acting chops. But her visibility is less, because she is not getting the plum projects which say, a Jhanvi Kapoor is getting. This, despite a huge hit in Badhai Ho, she really didn't land any lucrative offers. Gunjan Saxena falling in Jhanvi's lap--- what has she done to deserve such a project? Only Dhadak, where she was atrocious? Yet it's her last name which is getting her the exposure, and a well-curated career.

There are many more examples like this. The elitism that is rampant in Bollywood among the star kids is because of the sheer spread of nepotism. It has seeped its way down to the very roots, and has been extremely problematic for rising talent.

On the flip side, I do believe ultimately the audience is king and the inept will get eliminated if audience doesn't develop a liking for them.

It can take three or thirteen movies, but they will have to vacate the playfield without leaving any mark on the audience or the craft. The user decides the fate of entertainers, and nobody wants to pay for shitty performances religiously.

Social media has worsened the situation, IMO. These star kids due to social media build an audience for themselves even before the release of their movies. Not everyone is using their critical faculties when liking or subscribing to a popular name on social media. It's herd mentality.

Ultimately, talent should be the make-or-break factor and nothing else.

Thoughts??

Thank you for your well thought out thoughts, as usual. ❤️

The only thing I'd like to add is - the thing about social media... if you look closely at the situation, I see it in a slightly alternate lense.

Even before a "star kid" has made an announcement that they intend to become an actress/actor, FANS OF THEIR PARENTS will create FAN PAGES for the star kids. Look at Taimur for example. And Saif's other kids. If you look at their journeys, they were being OBSESSED OVER by fans of Saif and Kareena and even non-fans who found them cute/pretty.

In this climate, it is HARD for a producer to NOT give them films on a platter. Look at it: you have a ready made/highly saleable NEWCOMER with a fan following already under their belt. Why would you not sign them?

Same for journalists and paparazzi - why would they chase an upcoming newcomer who is an outsider? There's no storyline or "purpose", but oh look there's Sridevi's daughter coming out of a gym RUUUN.

Journos will write about them, because there is a market for them, created by us the audience. And in turn they get more fame and more followers and of course, more haters.

It's a cycle and I don't know how to fix it. But we have to accept it. It's not just a one-way thing. WE THE AUDIENCE ARE RESPOSIBLE in many ways for contributing to and harvesting an environment where nepotism exists and persists.
