I like this movie but it's the same old cliche of the rise of the underdog. No doubt it was executed well but it wasn't the best movie of 2019, IMO.

You need to watch 8 Mile to know that. Most of the story, scenes were lifted. Minor changes were made to the remaining scenes. Everytime Gully Boy said something on screen I could see B-Rabbit.

Ranveer, Siddhant and the rest of the supporting cast were good in their roles, but it was by no means the film of the year. Didn't make a lasting impact unlike many other releases of the year.

The film was different for the Indian market, but by no means was an original and was nowhere close to the original. It was basically Prime Video awarding a Prime Video movie.

Such an awful and boring, overrated movie!

I still cant believe that ranveer won the best actor award over Hrithik/shahid and alia over all the other nominated Actresses for her 15 min role

The movie was made for the Indian market and as a desi audience it definitely lived up to its reputation, especially within movies that were released that year. And those who say Hrithik performed better than Ranveer in S30, umm all I can say is the only other actor who deserved all the accolades that year was Shahid Kapoor for his performance in and as Kabir Singh( and lost out on the awards because of the content that he represented)

It was a good film but not the best of the year. There was a lot of media, celeb hype and the film wasn't an original piece of work.

The best performance of the year in all departments was definitely Kabir Singh and if Ranveer could win for playing Khilji, Alia could win for playing Safeena (who was the most toxic character of the film) and if Ranbir could win a year prior for Sanju, it shows how unjust these awards are. And 2019 Filmfare was a sham.

Ironically, people still talk about Kabir Singh, listen to the songs whereas Gully Boy is openly called sasta 8 Mile. This is explicit but shows why the original is gold:
