Yes, and to me it showed his limitations and lack of experience and maturity. Having seen the original, I will always be comparing anyone else to that. I don't remember feeling that about Kamal Hassan. In fact thought Kamal was better than Al Pacino.
No matter, RK was too young and early in his career when he did that.
By late 30s, most have seen highs and lows in their lives and been through some necessary hard knocks which give depth to character. I'd like to see how RK does in that role, if indeed it is a Godfather type story.
I thought Ranbir did an ok job considering that he was sharing screen with veterans like Nana Patekar and Manoj Bajpayee. It was the most interesting part of his career. He experimented a lot and worked with a lot of different directors. Nowadays he works only with directors he's comfortable or has an already delivered hits- like Ayaan, Hirani,Vanga or Luv Ranjan. As you said, it would be interesting to see how his life experiences and maturity will shape his acting. Not happy with him working with Vanga or Luv Ranjan who are unapologetically misogynistic. If their new films are similar, a hit with Ranbir would give them more credibility.

See, that's the problem with doing an iconic role like Michael Corleone. Whoever does it will not be judged as himself. He will be compared to Al frigging Pacino.😆
I think RK might interpret it differently this time. Less in your face bad guy expressions and more nuance. Let's see.
I don't think Ranbir's role in Animal would be anything similar to what he had portrayed in Rajneeti. He wasn't psychotic in Rajneeti but in Animal he will be, and very violent too.

Not a fan of the character of Michael Corleone though I admit Al Pacino did a good job. Could be because I had read the book before seeing the movie. I never liked him after he dumped his girl friend of many years carelessly and then married a girl he'd just met. And then she took him back too. Sonny wasn't any better either. I like how they faithfully carried over Michael's callousness regarding the women in his life to Ranbir's character in Rajneeti as well.

Characters in GF weren't meant to be likeable, just intriguing. What I hated was Kate's admission in the end.

The admission (and her action) is the most powerful part of Kay's character arc and it makes sense with how disillusioned she is with him and frightened of his violent life style. She wouldn't want to bring another life into that. Considering their daughter in GF III dies in an assassination attempt on Michael she's not wrong.

I meant her admission she still loved him. I wanted her to tell him to go to hell.
