The story as Uday tells it, is that he and Hrithik had watched the film Dead Calm (Nicole Kidman, Sam Neill, Billy Zane) and liking it so much they recommended it to Adi. Adi then recommended it to Yash and Daar was born, but only after he swiped the title from an amateur film Hrithik had directed.

ok. i have seen cape fear and i found many similarities. maybe dead calm too was another inspiration.

They all have near unstoppable obsessive stalker /killers and scenes that take place on a boat but the differences are in Cape Fear (both versions) it's about revenge against the man for putting him in prison. Dead Calm has a sexual obsession element with the wife that Cape Fear doesn't. Though in Darr's case it's romantic and longer lasting.

yes i didnt say its a straight lift. the stalker part and the boat scenes remined me of darr. i saw cape fear later.
