That's not the issue. As i have already said, For him the fact that she had come to his life to destroy him for kabir, she married him for kabir, everything she did, every moment between them was for kabir is driving him crazy. This is not about him being second best. Its not his ego that is hurt, its his heart.
I don't think it's an ego issue either. He wanted to be the one she'd give her heart to when she first met him and it wasn't the case. Being just a target for her mission (at least initially) made him feel reduced to a meaningless part of her life. He knows that she loves him and that she was hiding something when she first came into him life but a part of him was in denial back then. Now he's having to face the truth. At least, that's what his silent monologue seemed to be.
