I believe such movies appeal to the latent misogyny in the masses...and especially launde lapades patronized this movie because they could identify and sympathize with the lead character and his gundagardi.

I’m yet to see an example of holding men accountable for their poor choices in Bollywood.

Pehle ladki ko deceive karo.. Jab woh na bole toh sach keh raha hai deewana gao.. Seriously...

P. S I love Madhavan

It's not just stalking here, it's one step ahead of that, it's lying about your identity and deceiving the girl you claim to love, and then whining like a loser when the truth comes out. Maddy's character was repulsive, tbh. How on earth can they project that as a romantic ideal?

Discuss.

Its not business of art to correct or reform society...it isnt that great . Art at Best reflects society( be in small or big section of society).

A repulsive guy can get want he wants ... come off as a good lover or watever , I see it happening in real life so why cant it be shown in a movie ?

Lets say a bad guy meets a bad end(does not neccesarily happen in real life). People who make preachy movies and who act in these movies are not stand up people ...so why should it matter ?

Why do we give these film industry people the status of great thinkers and reformers...most of them are into thrid grade activities and would stoop any low for money.

Artists - by nature are very self involved and very self centered. They can feign social responsibility for money and fame like Aamir ... who in real life is quite shady. But, all we care is that he makes preechy movies and nothing like that in real life.

Ayn Rand once said something when she was heavily criticised for a play she wrote in which the female lead's ideal man is a major crook and someone who almost forced himself on her". All she said was..."He is not ideal man for me. All i did was create an ideal man for the herione based on her type".

I saw this movie in theatre back when in college...All of us girls found Abbas(saif character in remake) more appealing . So, yeah the girl's the loser in the movie according to us ... all of us responded correctly to right guy not this stalker... what does this say ? the movie rightly evoked correct emotion in us young girls ? even though the guy gets the girl. Does what happen in the movie truly have any bearing on people who watch it ?

Always give a problematic guy the girl. Its correct reflection and actually audience may see it for what it is . Not giving the bad guy the girl makes it look like unrealistic and create a bit of sympathy like somehow a redemption was assigned to the liar stalker(in this movie).

Seeing Maddy get the girl made us who watched the movie what kind of trouble the girl is signing up for. None of us wanted to be in the girl's place.

Actually they do. They go far enough to hold them accountable outside of the movie character ahem 'shahid and vijay' for kabir singh.

Also, we have many women film makers...I expect them to do much better job in this dept...since we aneways expect no better from men film makers ...right ?

Yeah I agree with you. I was in school and I also liked Saif's character the best. But my problem is not only that the girl ends up with the "wrong" guy. My problem is that the movie tries hard to evoke a sense of sympathy for Maddy's character, and tries hard to sell his infatuation as true love. Also, tries to justify his actions in the name of "love". The writing is insidious and lulls us into a false sense of complacency. Art need not show reformation, but in the writing and the characterization you can always get an idea who the writers are trying to convince us is the ideal of romantic love.

The movie is only trying to tell a story to sell for money . It’s just trying to be it’s creative best , it’s intention is not to try to sell a bad guy to us as a great lover . The movie intention is to tell some love story differently to sell to audience for entertainment and money , all Cookie cutter movie makers do Is to try different ways to make a movie different than routine love story without boring audience and in turn lose money when movie flops .

While doing all these ballistics they end up creating characters that do dance with right/wrong crossing boundaries (accidentally, they create characters that exist in real life). The guy gets the girl coz he is a hero( insert any big star) ... their intention is not to sell us a bad and problematic guy . Their intention is to sell . Period .

Sorry, I haven't read your post but perhaps you may be thinking how a film which tells the story of a guy faking his identity to lure a girl into love garner so much adulation. Honestly, the journey was incredibly endearing for me. I loved Madhavan and Dia's chemistry. They were adorable. Plus, the song Sach Keh Raha Hai Deewana and Zara Zara were a rage.

There's some inexplicable magic right there. I can't put a word to it.
