Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani: A movie ahead of its time?

So we all know that Kaho Na Pyaar Hai and its craze destroyed the prospects of Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani at the box-office. But I had watched both in the theatres, and I quite liked PBDHH. It made some excellent points about the manipulation of the press and the willingness of the press to go along with it. And the demonization of the “other” and declaring someone to be a terrorist to further political gain.

Do you think it would work if it released in the current scenario?

I wouldn't say it was "ahead of it's time" per se - but is it still relevant today, hell yes!

You're very right, KHNP overshadowed PBDHH majorly. The media was igniting a war between Hrithik and SRK at the time and when the latter's film didn't hit the former's numbers, it damaged the long-term prospects of the film - but that's not because the film was ahead. Any film of SRK to be released during that time would've had the same fate or worse.

Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani had an appropriate time to release in the year 2000.

It was a wonderful movie but not acknowledged enough maybe because kaho na pyaar hai release awhile back so people were more focused on that.

Also the media was not as DHEET back then - they probably couldn't take a movie made over mocking them and panned this through

It was the perfect masala entertainer and is still so relevant

Rakesh asked SRK to move his film a couple of weeks away from KNPH but he refused. Aamir's film which opened the week before was also crushed by it. Almost any film opening after it would have had the same fate regardless of subject matter or star power.

It's still relevant though parts of the media are now far worse.

not ahead of its time but the movie was too childish, the story deserved a more serious presentation like Madhur Bhandarkar kind.. this was essentially a comedy.

Yes, it was good movie about the media intrusion and scripting. It would have definitely done better today with improved execution.

The songs and comedy was good though.

Weaning away the 90s funky stuff/ presentation more realistic (more so than Rann) & directed at the contemporary & mainstream news media where journalism have been almost reduced to ashes (in fact now has evolved to function as non-State actors) might work more meaningful..

But then again , uploading on torrent sites or dark web from an anonymous location & with download advice through Tor/VPN shouldn't be meant as release..Or will it ?
