Rani had a great record in the 2003-2007 period, but she had truckloads of c-grade govinda films before that, and another innumerable flops and ridiculous performances (like DBH) after that. Preity too ruled from 2000-2005 -- totally vanished afterwards. Ash had a flop phase during Rani-Preity's rise, but managed to stay relevant for a longer time.

1999-2002 - Ash reigned, with HDDCS, Mohabbatein, HDAPH, Devdas. Preity too was going strong with KK, DCH, etc. Rani was popular and in top 5, but she mostly had flops and was looking for one elusive hit which wasn't coming.

2003: Preity's year, and Rani too climbs the ladder with KHNH.

2004 - 2006 - Rani's era, with truckloads of hits and critically acclaimed performances, Preity was doing very well too, just a little behind Rani. Ash's flop phase

2007-2010: Rani goes through her flop period, and Preity totally disappears. Ash manages to make her comeback, with D2, JA, Guzarish etc.

Overall, Ash managed to stay relevant for the entire decade, with many years when she was #1 or close to that. Even in her flop phase, she had critically acclaimed works like CB, Raincoat, and her international popularity was beyond anything anyone in Bollywood had at that point.

That's only talking about the 2000s. Now Rani is definitely doing better.

[this is just bearing in mind these three ladies, of course there was Kareena, Priyanka, Katrina, Vidya, Deepika in the mix, but I'm just analysing these three Queens]
