Read through all the previous posts and i think we all agree suicides in dramas are unnecessary in 99% cases. In the stories, o have noticed broadly 3 categories of suicides and none of them can be be justified in most cases by the writers.
1. killing off the bad characters through suicide is to depict how ashamed they are of their sins/mistakes and are unable to live with the regrets/guilt.
2. Killing oneself due to family, inlaws, social pressures, failed love lives, rapes/eve teasing/blackmailing etc.
3. "attempting" suicide only to be saved at the last moment as an act of true honest repentance, to be forgiven by the near & dear ones.
However im SHOCKED to read the posts about what people think of those who die by suicide in real lives. People who die by suicide are NOT cowards. They have just given up on their lives. Suicide is not a one moment action... Those who suffer from depression, those who are caught up in situations where they see no escape from... They must have gone through the act of killing themselves in their heads over and over again until that one moment when they hit such a low that they do it. Pls look up some videos on youtube about suicide survivors to know how they reached that tipping point. When you think there is no one who needs you, who cares for you, that it will make no difference whether or not you live, when the pain is unbearable, when the ghosts of past haunt you, people just do it! Yet within a nanosecond of attempting the act, almost all of them regretted it. Instantly!
Mental illnesses and depressions are very poorly understood and majorly misunderstood concepts in indian subcontinent. When Deepika Padukone spoke about her battle with depression, everyone was like but isko kya problem hai.. Sundar hai, rich hai, successful hai, boyfriend hai fir kis baat ka depression. As if depression is a proprietary illness of middle and lower class.
Coming to Islam and Allah, i don't know much. But my belief is that if there is a God, it is the same God who made that person feel so vulnerable, so lost, so hopeless that they tried to commit suicide. And hence God would never judge or punish that man for his final act. That person does not deserve judgements or punishments but just kindness and understanding, from people and from God.
I read this thoughtful quote somewhere - suicide does not take the pain away, it just passes it onto someone else. 😢
