I am glad you shared this with us. It is very important to spreed awareness about the reasons behind suicides. The way we upbring our children is very effective. I had suicidical thoughts once at least in my life , I was under a lot of pressure because I was doing my MBA , and my father wasn't satisfied. We had an argument and I felt like I can't take it anymore.😔 My brother too treatened to kill himself .. He wasn't as intellegant as the rest of his siblings, he was compared to us, he has a short temper, and he was also spoiled. 😳 I can't understand him , but now I understand that he was under a lot of pressure. 😒 Alhamdulillah , now everything is alright. 😊

All right, I know now that sounds preachy, but nothing is really ever THE end..Idk how else to put it..there's ALWAYS, ALWAYS hope somewhere..just..take a breather..reflect..a dark night doesn't just stand still..the silver lining does eventually shine through..

Wow..okay..and as far as our dramas are concerned, writers just use suicide to get away with the character and their issues..running away from any problem doesn't solve it neither is their growth for that particular character. If the given character just takes his or her life, what happened to their character graph? I mean...there's always a rise, a downfall, the changing moment, etc..suicide just "kills" the entire sketch..

Thank you for joining the discussion.😊

I hope everyone take a little time before ending his own life to think of all the blessings he has, to think of the ppl who will be affected badly after his death, to think of his good and bad times, nothing lasts forever. You aren't preachy. It is the way life norm is . Life continues we move on.. Hope never dies.

I agree about dramas. Mostly suicide come from nowhere , just to finish the particular character and make way for leads to reunit, or justic to be served.😔 But in few dramas we saw a suicide in the beginning of a drama , and it is used as a main cause of the complication of the story. In dramas like : Log Kya Kahenge and Qaid , the story of the drama revolved around those incidents. However I am not in favour with suicide .. they could't shown a normal death or an accident. 🤔

^ true.

I only know of LKK (don't watch it, just know the premise)...but like that shows something too right..that person just ended his life due to some sort of issue too..which also could've been shown as something else, more natural..

I guess @ the end of the day, it's just become a norm in the industry now..

@awida- you're welcome and thanks for all these great topics! :)

Yes it’s very hard when people go through such difficulty with ill-health. But you’re right about the fact that suicide is still not allowed even if the pain is too difficult. In our religion we must have hope for a greater reward for greater suffering.

It’s hard when we watch films and stuff to remember that we are only meant to live for a higher purpose and that whatever we do in this life will have consequences.

My deceased aunt has two daughters and a son. She was a good woman. Her eldest Daughter(who is exactly my age) is my good friend. It's been 5 months and I haven't spoken to my cousin. She never picks up my phone whenever I call her. Many young boys commit suicide due to failure in love. Why don't young people think about their old parents before committing suicide? People with mental illness are also human beings. Pakistani writers and popular TV channels are trying to promote suicide in the society, which is not tolerable for me .Suicide is not allowed in any religion. Dramas are basically a representative of our culture. They also shape how society thinks and drama’s can be used to change our attitude towards certain social issues like dowry, abusive relationships and family politics. Drama’s are commonly watched by housewives and children.Everything has two effects some are good and some are bad.Unfortunately In Dramas Suicide ko Emotionally blackmailing ky dekha rahy hain.

Yes. Showing ppl blackmailing others with suicide, and get what they want after that is the worst thing to promote in dramas. Some dramas even show they ways of suicide, like ppl hanging themselves, or burning themselves in details.. I read Aijaz Aslam had injured himself while performing suicide scene in LKK .😲 Why should they go to that extent in the first place to shoot a scene?!😡 Many children and teenagers watch dramas, and these things may give them ideas to go and try. I read about children who committed suicide because of a drama scene or a mobile game. 😭

Read through all the previous posts and i think we all agree suicides in dramas are unnecessary in 99% cases. In the stories, o have noticed broadly 3 categories of suicides and none of them can be be justified in most cases by the writers.

1. killing off the bad characters through suicide is to depict how ashamed they are of their sins/mistakes and are unable to live with the regrets/guilt.

2. Killing oneself due to family, inlaws, social pressures, failed love lives, rapes/eve teasing/blackmailing etc.

3. "attempting" suicide only to be saved at the last moment as an act of true honest repentance, to be forgiven by the near & dear ones.

However im SHOCKED to read the posts about what people think of those who die by suicide in real lives. People who die by suicide are NOT cowards. They have just given up on their lives. Suicide is not a one moment action... Those who suffer from depression, those who are caught up in situations where they see no escape from... They must have gone through the act of killing themselves in their heads over and over again until that one moment when they hit such a low that they do it. Pls look up some videos on youtube about suicide survivors to know how they reached that tipping point. When you think there is no one who needs you, who cares for you, that it will make no difference whether or not you live, when the pain is unbearable, when the ghosts of past haunt you, people just do it! Yet within a nanosecond of attempting the act, almost all of them regretted it. Instantly!

Mental illnesses and depressions are very poorly understood and majorly misunderstood concepts in indian subcontinent. When Deepika Padukone spoke about her battle with depression, everyone was like but isko kya problem hai.. Sundar hai, rich hai, successful hai, boyfriend hai fir kis baat ka depression. As if depression is a proprietary illness of middle and lower class.

Coming to Islam and Allah, i don't know much. But my belief is that if there is a God, it is the same God who made that person feel so vulnerable, so lost, so hopeless that they tried to commit suicide. And hence God would never judge or punish that man for his final act. That person does not deserve judgements or punishments but just kindness and understanding, from people and from God.

I read this thoughtful quote somewhere - suicide does not take the pain away, it just passes it onto someone else. 😢

I thought Zoobia's character arc kind of justified her attempt to kill herself. She had faced many problems in life one after other, bravely but at the end when she sees her brother she kind of gives up. Because she thinks no matter what she does, how hard she tries to run away from her past, her past comes back to her looking right into her eyes. She realizes there is no escape, in spite of all her attempts. The only escape route she saw, out of tbis vicious circle was suicide. And it was quite natural for her character to think that Asfi would never accept her after knowing her truth, because that's what everyone else did to her, at various stages of her life, including her own brother.

Like I know this disabled girl, she has a severe arthritis even though she is so young. She cannot walk without support and she has to be put on morphine regularly because the pain is unbearable. She was recently diagnosed with brain tumor too, now shes on chemotherapy but she has tried to commit suicide 3 times when the pain gets too much to bear😭

If only euthanasia was a legal option. Cases like these make me root for Euthanasia. No one deserves to live with unbearable chronic physical pain/discomfort IF THAT'S WHAT THEY CHOOSE.

I agree that most of ppl who commit a suicide must've gone through lots of pain and heartbreaks, felt lonely or rejected. 😭 I pray that none suffers this much or reaches this stage.😒

In many dramas they don't care about showing the things you pointed at in your post They make it look like a sudden thought, or a way to escape punishment.

Allah is the most mercifull. And those phrases in Holy books warning ppl from taking on their own lives, are for their betterment. Rest is for him to forgive them or not. You said it in your post that those survivors regretted thinking of a suicide. This means that those phrases are to stop those helpless ppl from killing themselves, couse if they succeed there'll be no returning back.

@maroon . So true. 😭

Well. I didn't watch the first half of this drama, so I couldn't understand Zubi's pain. But I can't see the need of killing herself when she passed the toughest experiences. She lost many ppl and moved on . She acheived many things.. this is why I felt that she shouldn't kill herself because she was going to lose Asfi's love and support . 😕
