With the chinese enhanced Covid flu wreaking havoc in the entertainment business some films have had release issues and have not received proper launchings and PR. This film is one of those, I hope the audience will do it justice and see it on their media outlets like Amazon prime, NetF...or whatever and leave good reviews. The film is not grandiose nor over the top, and while it does have some filmy moments, the theme or the structure of the film is pure and depicts a few beautiful realities.
One is the character of Hindi women who strive forward with stubborn pride regardless of surroundings and circumstances. And how things ingrained by culture remain with you no matter how far you go in the world.
The other is the raw talent found in both boys and girls of that nation in the most unexpected places.
Last but not least is the fact that Vidya Balan is one of the best actresses in the Industry today (I hate comparisons BUT if there is a Hindi counterpart to Meryl Streep; that is Vidya) she carries a film so effortlessly on her shoulders, without overacting or screeching gimmicks that the audience is in danger of missing the nuances if they are not observant. She is an a artiste. Period.
Miss Sanya Malhotra follows closely on her heels and if given the chance she will place her self on the list of great Hindi actresses, together they made a gentle but beautiful film on a subject that may be deemed boring or unimportant by many who are looking for impossible stunts depicting females emulating men. At any rate they give the real Shakuntala a proper place that she earned on merit and young students should do well to remember her place in the world of mathematics.
I look forward to see much more from Ms. Balan as well as Ms. Malhotra, and give this film.
