Why? Don't you consider them great actors or superstars? None of the four I mentioned?

Ranbir Kapoor, Aamir Khan, Ajay Devgn and Dev Anand are the among those few exceptions as well.

All four are at best mediocre. Only in BW would they considered good.

But fact is that Amitabh succeeded in character roles because he's a really good actor. He's one of the best of all time in the industry.

Most of the Superstars are not except few exceptions like Amitabh, Dilip Kumar and Sanjeev Kumar.

This is all about image in public eye

Amitabh Bachchan played fathers role in his late 30s or early 40s only akhri rasta etc

AB played variety of roles from start be it angry young an, father, comedy etc

But Sunny deol struck to one image angry young man never diversified

So people have this image of him which hes not able to come out of after he started flopping in 2003 onwards after indian movie

Same for sunil shetty

Akshay kumar was clever one diversified and survived so did ajay devgan and amir khan

SRK is flop past 10 years thats why image of lover boy only

After 40-45 you cannot play lover boy or angry young man only tough to accept

Dilip kumar and Sanjeev kumar in different league only they are natural actos they can fit any role hero, heros father, comedy, tragedy, mad person, joker, dumb, dacoit, police etc and ppl accepted them in those roles because they become that character

AB personality is so huge everywhere you watch you feel its AB only

AB yes. Haven't seen enough of the movies of the other 2 to comment.

There are really good actors among the newer mainstream lot, too. I'm not a fan of either Saif or Shaheed, but they are good.

Sunny Deol has very limited acting skills. He was good with action.Period. His 80s contemporaries like Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff and Sanjay Dutt are still going strong because they are versatile as well as good actors.

Of course they are Superstars and also good actors, but not in Amitabh's league.

Govinda is better than all of those whom you mentioned, whether its acting or versatility, but still he's struggling.

How many national awards do these contemporaries have combined? Not as many as Sunny Deol.

Sunny Deol was a bigger star than these three combined and with that comes an inflated ego. While they adjusted to play character roles, Sunny only wanted lead roles. He'll have no dearth of top projects if hes fine playing a side character as well like those three. Has nothing to do with acting skills.

I've never found him funny. And I have never seen him display any versatility in his roles. But to each their own. The 80s-90s actors mostly did routine pedestrian movies and exceptional scripts rarely came their way. So it is possible that no such script never came his way. But Sanjay, Anil and Jackie were lucky enough to get at least have one film in their kitty where they performed above expectations. And they're all good at networking and getting along with people. Another reason they're still getting work.

Will Suhana Khan also meet the same fate as Tanisha and Esha Deol?

I feel she will end up just like them because Suhana really lacks the looks, glamour and talent! I mean she’s just NOT cut out for the glamour...
