On a religious point of view, even though cousin marriages are permitted in Islam but I think I also read somewhere that the Prophet SAW also disencouraged it and encouraged people to marry outside of family to increase the ummah and for stronger children, as consistent cousin marriages lead to physically weak offspring.

I am not sure how authentic that is though.

Most of Hadeeth in this topic are weak. 😊

I found many cases in which ppl from different families got married, yet they had weak children. 😒

Cousin Marriage are convenient.it doesn’t require much effort to search for eligible matches. Siblings promise their children to each other as a sign of love and loyalty.

i'm not against cousin Marriages.my husband is also my cousin.we have known each other since childhood.Cousin Marriage is common in Pakistan.Parents always want the best for their children.

Every coin has two sides.Drama are commonly watched by housewives and childrens.I'm against Forced Marriages.Pakistani writers should not promote forced cousin Marriage in dramas.

Yes. In my country too. Cousin marriages are the most common. It is even considered an insult when your cousin ignores you and marry a girl of his choice. I remember a problem happened when a guy from our family proposed a girl of his choice. After the engagement was cancelled. He proposed his cousin. But his uncle rejected him saying that he insulted them by proposing another girl first. Later his brother got married to the same cousin.

I agree. In dramas parents are shown forcing their children to get married to their cousins. If they refuse the get kicked of of the house, or their parents threaten to disown them. Diyar E Dil , Teri Bina , or even Kuch Na Kaho (Ainy's first husband) parents blackmailed their sons to get married to their cousins. 😔 The good part is that in many of these dramas forced cousin marriage doesn't work. 😊

In my family, we children are not allowed to marry non-relatives. Especially the girls in my family can't get married outside the family. I have a cousin who married her office colleague. As a result, her parents severed all ties with her. My cousin and her husband were not allowed in our house. Parents should support their children. It's not bad to marry someone who really loves you, whether it's your cousin or someone outside the family. Pakistani dramas are usually based on reality. Drama stories have a profound effect on our lives.Dayar -E-Dil is still my favorite Drama❤️.

Yes, weak children can come to anyone as even christians have disabled children even though they dont marry cousins. If it was truly that harmful then cousin marriages would not be allowed in the Quran.

i dont see cousins falling in love anymore most people prefer to marry out of family but maybe cousins can get attached and fond of each other after they spend so much time together since childhood...i just think cousin marriages are so common because its more convenient...its very hard to find rishtas out of family especially when you have daughters, you dont know what the family is like and they may have high demands too...so people just find it easier to get their daughters married in family...its beneficial for them too as the daughter would stay close to them and the other family would accept her as its their own blood.

I agree that parents should give their children the freedom to choose their life partners. In the end they are going to spend their life with their spouses , and it isn't an easy task to be forced to marry someone whom you don't like.🤔

@blue. Thank you for highlighting this topic. I forgot about it..although in Bandhe Ek Dor Se , Umar (Ahsan Khan) got married to his cousin because of the big demands of her to be in laws. So when their baraat didn't come. He married her to avoid badnaami.😒

I am glad that her husband is converting to Islam. I hope this helps her getting forgiven by her parents.

It is an old tradition here to marry your cousin. And I think everybody is mentally prepared for it. I think it is the same in Pakistan. Dramas keep promoting it. I think it is easier for a girl to adjust in her uncle or aunt's house, because they are from the same family. They have the same living habits, and roots. But it is not necessary that the easier things are the most favoured ones.

hmm what can i say..not allowed in our culture, cannot even marry person from same last name or same village .but i consider myself expert in Pakistani dramas lol

I agree they cause conflict in many families now a days. Loads of my Muslim friends don't marry cousins because of medical reasons .

I think it is mind set from centuries one way or other.
