*Discussion Of The Week #5 Cousin Marriages In Pakistani Dramas*

Hello everybody.😊

It is a common topic in almost every Pakistani drama to have a cousin marriage , or romance between cousins.

Many ppl disapprove with cousin marriage either for social, cultural or medical reasons.

In Pakistani dramas we have different types of cousin marriages: arranged , love , and forced ones.😔

So what are your opinions guys?

i have nothing against cousin marriages...i myself am married to my cousin and its very common in our family.

However, I personally prefer marrying outside of family. I have no issue if cousins fall in love with each other and get married but im against arranged marriages of cousins so dramas should stop promoting the act of cousin marriages for beneficial sakes like bringing famillies closer etc.

Yes. Dramas promot cousin marriages for many reasons , like : keeping the property in the family : ex. Muqaddar , or for the name of the family , coz they are afraid if their daughters get married out of the family, they may get married to a less respective ones , like in many Sayyid families , or just for the sake of it.. coz they think that cousins will care more about eachother, and won't hurt eachother, because they are blood relatives.😃 In many dramas like : Dayar E Dil , Thora Sa Haq , and Ramz E Ishq , we saw parents forcing their sons to marry their cousins for different reasons.🤔

I don't think cousin marriages bring families closer . Nowadays , with the increasing numbers of divorce, they cause a slit between the relatives. 🥺

3 of my siblings got married to our cousins. And I didn't feel that we became closer ..😆 problems and differences increased. And I prefer maintaining a distance with my relatives. 🤓

I agree. Maybe they worked in the old generation but not in our generation. Cousin marriages are leading to many differences and family politics. The poor couple may be unhappy together but still stay together due to family pressure.

Also in the case of divorce, the famillies can never be the same again. It would affect the whole family instead of just the couple.

I too think that divorce in cousin marriages is less than in any other type of marriage. I just hope that it is the happiest marriage too.

It is difficult when it comes to divorce. Or even when a major problem happens between the couple, where every member from both families interfer. You get many fall outs, to remember even after the couple settle down again. but then such things happen in different types of marriages , not just between cousins. Although here it is very sad coz it causes relatives split. At least for sometime.

Cousin marriages may creat chaos in the families .. in dramas like : Main Na Jaanu , Teri Bina , Thora Sa Haq , and many other .. we saw ugly fights between family members just to keep the couple togather inspite of them didn't get well togather.

I am not against cousin marriages. If couple parents and couple are happy with this marriage than its fine. But if its force marriage than its not acceptable.

In my pov marriage is like a gambling. We can't predict the future of marital life. For me cousin marriage is as same as marriage outside family. Yeah there are many cases. Sometimes due to cousin marriages the differences do come between families.

In my pov shadi muqadar ka khel hai chaye family main ho yan out of family we can assure happy marital life.

If we see on basis of medical grounds than yes its risky. I have seen many cases where couple has cousin marriage and than they have some problem with their child. My phupo is married with her cousin and she had miscarriage twice. My uncle is married with her cousin and one of their child has skin problem from birth. But yeah they are happily married and now their children have grown up.

So, I would say if couple and families are happy than there is nothing wrong in cousin marriage until unless they are not forced.

Sadly that is not the case anymore. From experience I have seen cousin marriages failing more than marriages outside of family and I feel it is because of family disputes and politics. Just because they are blood related to you it doest mean the person will be more loyal to you, sometimes blood relations can be more dangerous than marrying a stranger.

I think dramas should encourage families to get their children married out of family.

On a religious point of view, even though cousin marriages are permitted in Islam but I think I also read somewhere that the Prophet SAW also disencouraged it and encouraged people to marry outside of family to increase the ummah and for stronger children, as consistent cousin marriages lead to physically weak offspring.

I am not sure how authentic that is though.

I don't know much about it but if I am not wrong, that Hazart Muhammad SAWW married with His first cousin Hazart Zaynab bint Jahsh R.A. So I guess cousin marriages are allowed in Islam but yeah its preferred to do marriage outside of family as genetic problems can arise.

I wonder if girls fall in love with their cousins only beause they are the only ajnabi men they can interact with because of our social norms which doesn't allow socializing between both sexes. I can't see how can I fall for a cousin specially when we live in the same house! In Pakistani dramas they can shift from addressing their cousins as bhais to marrying them . I found ( Jo Tu Chahe) funny for this only.

I am happy that your relatives lead a happy life. In my family there are such cases in which children suffer medical troubles because of relatives marriages. My cousin is married to a relative who is a distant cousin to her. They have 6 children : 3 of them have have Cerebal Palsy.😒
