Chapter 8

Good deeds may or may not reward you,

but you always pay a price for the mistakes you've made

People say when one door to happiness closes, another door to happiness will open up. But many of us only focus on the closed door that we don’t even realize another door has opened. Perhaps, the other door to happiness is not anything grand or special. Mayhap, it’s the small and trivial things that look insignificant which are the new doors to happiness. But as long as you don’t crumble down in front of that closed door, take a look at the other door before it's too late, and muster up the courage to walk towards it, then maybe you might be able to find the happiness you didn’t realize existed.

Ridhima is happy to see Mohan Pandey at the front door who came to safeguard Ragini. Yes, finally other than her and Vansh, someone in the house will take care of her. She needs to make sure neither Kabir nor Anupriya bring any harm to her as she is the main reason Vansh is alive. Yes, even today somewhere deep in her heart, she still feels for Vansh. She is not sad about it. She has seen people chose others over her. What makes her angry is to use her for their selfish motives.

Vansh: Show me your ID card?

Mohan Pandey smirks and shows his card to him and says,

"Mr Vansh Rai Singhania, for your information, you are under the radar of the cops. We aren't. I understand you might feel we could harm you, but, yes, some people protect the helpless people more than anything."

Vansh smirks at his reply and says,

"There might be people who are responsible, but, I have seen people betray me in the name of loyalty."

Mohan: Loyal people are rare to see. You see, in the game of chess, every pawn should be loyal to their King. Just because they are on your border doesn't mean they should be faithful to you. As they have sworn loyalty to others. So you cannot call technically a betrayal unless the pawn has their own motives against both the kings.

Vansh feels as if Mohan is implying towards him but Dadi intervenes in the middle of the conversation and says,

"Inspector Mohan, please take care of Ragini from today. I don't want any more drama to happen in this house because of her. Neither, I don't want anyone to blame my grandchild for the harm if any outsider causes her. VR Mansion is a highly protected place. We also would make sure to keep her safe but request your assistance."

Mohan: Sure, Mrs Rai Singhania.

Everyone tries to leave the hall however Dadi stops and says,

"I hope none has forgotten about tomorrow's puja."

Vansh, Sia and Ishani feels sad and Ridhima looks at them with a confused expression and asks,

"Sorry Dadi, but I don't know."

Ishani tries to say something however Dadi intervenes and says,

"Tomorrow is death day (Shradh) of Ajay Rai Singhania, my eldest son and the father of your husband. I understand that you don't know. Ridhima, please look after all the puja. We make sure to do Annadaan for the poor people tomorrow. I want you to look after the puja ceremony followed by the food which we would offer to people. Vansh, however, takes care of security."

Chanchal cuts in the middle and says,

"Maa, since when you are choosing her over us? Every year we used to do it. I'm the one who used to maintain the food section while Anupriya di takes care of the puja ceremony. How come you are giving the power of us to her? These days this orphan is getting more than what she deserves?"

Dadi cuts Chanchal in between and shouts at her,

"Shut Up! Is this how you treat the daughter-in-law of the house? Is this how I treated you both? Ridhima is the wife of Vansh and eldest daughter-in-law. She needs to look after because tomorrow if anything happens to me or you, she should make sure to continue our family rituals. I never did any differentiation between you and Anupriya and the same goes for Ridhima. If tomorrow Aryan marries someone, I will make sure she also does what Ridhima is doing. Next time I don't want to hear anyone calling Ridhima an orphan. Remember my words. If one crosses the line, leave this house."

Dadi comes near Ridhima and says,

"I don't know why people of this house don't see the goodness of yours. Maybe they are too much goodness blinded (Laughs). Ridhima, until I'm alive, it is my house. I'm giving you a full authority from today to take over any puja, event, or anything you like do with this house."

She looks at Vansh angrily and continues,

"A husband is the one who makes sure to safeguard his wife respect beside today you failed it, Vansh. Earlier you stood with her, right now, I feel so much of change in you. I hope this change is temporary. I don't want to see you focusing on irrelevant things (Indicating indirectly about Ragini)."

Ridhima walks near Dadi and assures that,

"Please don't stress yourself. If Chachi wants to do it, I will like to assist her. Also, Vansh always stood beside me. I'm sure, in the future also he will stand beside me. Dadi, I, and Vansh made the eighth vow at the time of marriage nuptials; that is not to betray each other. Vansh is a man of his words. He would never betray me. He demands loyalty from someone besides he gives it too. Isn't Vansh? (Ridhima smirks looking at Vansh, while for the first time VR averts his gaze from her).

Chanchal back in her room walks hither and thither and shouts at Rudr,

"Did you saw today what happened today? Maa is giving all the responsibilities of this house to Ridhima. Until yesterday you and our son Aryan used to work under him and now I should say yes to whatever Ridhima says. Tomorrow, our daughter-in-law would do the same. Tomorrow's puja would be the last day where Maa would trust Ridhima. I will break Maa's trust over her."

Rudra tries to stop her, however, in meantime, Vansh enters the room, and Chachi is shocked. She is afraid Vansh might have heard everything. Rudra also feels the same but Vansh cuts in the middle and says,

"I need your help Chachu."

Rudra and Chanchal are surprised and shocked to see Vansh asking for help. He never asked for anything. It has been 15 years since he asked for help.

Vansh: I need your help with the Randhwa project. You know Chachu how prestigious this project for us. We are one of the wealthiest families in India. Yet, Randhawa's are the richest in the world. They are one of the top 5 families. Shergill and Randhawa's are the most powerful people in the world. If I'm known as King of the sea, Ridhay Singh Randhawa is the Emperor of the world. I don't want to miss the deal with them. If we win this project, people will tag us as the affluent family in whole the Asian continent.

Rudra feels happy that finally, Vansh is asking for his help. Though he wants to spoil this project. However, when Vansh said it would give the status as the Asian influential family, he too doesn't want to miss it. He happily agrees to it by saying,

"Vansh, I too heard a lot about Ridhay Singh Randhawa. He is not only known as the Emperor of the Business World but also as the Devil. If you need something from him, in return you need to leave your precious with him. When it comes to Shergill's, I know you have heard about Sakshi Randhawa Shergill, Ridhay's aunt. Both businesses are handled by Ridhay. However, when it comes to their family, none knows anyone other than these two people. They are not only just the most influential family but also the mysterious ones too. One wrong move and we are over with this venture. We need to plan this aerospace project with him very meticulously. We are newly venturing into this aerospace industry. So let's cross-check everything before sending them our project. It's better to start without them because if they reject, none would agree to partner with us. So our steps should make us win this project. What say?"

Vansh has always been a lone-wolf as he knows how his pack works behind his back. Today somewhere deep down in his heart, he felt happy. Yes, he has his doubts about how Chachu and Aryan work on this project. But, seeing him speaking so passionately about this project it made him so happy. He did something which he didn't in the past 15 years. Vansh hugs Rudra which is another surprise for Rudra and Chanchal.

Vansh: We will win this project, Chachu. I have your back!

Vansh leaves from the room while Rudra felt something in his heart after ages. He just remembered the moment when he first took Vansh in his hands. He brushed his thoughts and looks at Chanchal.

Rudra: Chanchal, don't plan anything now. This project is important to us. Once we win this, do anything with that orphan girl. Until then, No.

Rudra leaves the room while leaving Chanchal more determined to destroy Ridhima's character before Chandrika tomorrow.

Ridhima is noting down everything Dadi indicating her to takes notes. At the same time, her phone rings and Dadi is so happy to pick the phone and says,

"Kailash! How are you? It has been months since you called me. You left for the Malayasia project but, you forgot your mother. No phone and nothing. Do you know how many things happened here? Tell me how you are there? Hope you are keeping yourself safe from the virus?"

Kailash: Maa, I'm fine. I'm coming tomorrow to the Puja. I'm not present in VR Mansion, but I know everything. I'm also very eager to see our daughter-in-law in the house.

Dadi: Is it? I'm so happy. Vansh also feels good to see you back. I will be waiting for you tomorrow.

Ridhima looks at Dadi and asks

Kailash?

Dadi: Oh, you didn't meet him, right? He is my third son - Kailash Rai Singhania. Before the covid crisis, he left for Malaysia for a project and got stuck. I'm happy tomorrow he is coming. Ridhima, if you meet Kailash you feel so good. He is a very pious, strict yet at the same time a lovable person. You will enjoy his company.

Ridhima is happy to see Dadi happy but wondered how come she hasn't ever heard about this Kailash Chachu before though it had been a while since she came into this house. But for now, she brushed off her thoughts and focused on the Puja.

Vansh reaches his room and sees it empty. He lay off on his bed and think about all the events which happened until now. Vansh's life is always set. Yet since the day Ridhima happened in his life, things were going a little hazy. Now, from the day of her return, she is not the same Ridhima he knows. It looks like the campaign gave her some unknown strength. He knows Ridhima. A simple girl who fell for the wrong guy. Sometimes, he feels pity for her. Today when Ridhima reminded him about the eighth vow, he felt his heart had churned him. She looked at him as if she knows what he is planning to do with her.

Ridhima comes in while he comes out his thoughts at look at her and says,

"You are not the same Ridhima anymore."

Ridhima: Same Ridhima? How was I before?

Vansh: Soulful. Something is missing from you these days. As if you know everything. I'm missing the clumsy Ridhima. This Ridhima knows every step of hers. I feel as I'm looking at myself sometimes.

Ridhima: So, you still have eyes on me?

Vansh: Always.

Ridhima: (Smiles sadly) I thought you don't need me anymore?

Vansh knows what she is indicating and hugs her. Ridhima flinches at his hug. After her comeback, this is the first time they both are being so close to each other.

Vansh: Do you know the difference between first and last love? Ridhima nods No.

Vansh continues,

"First love, makes a person grow while last love completes a person." You complete me Ridhima.

Ridhima has tears in her eyes. This is what she is afraid of - His closeness, his love-filled words though she knows are fake yet her heart craves to hear. His way of expressing fake love towards her. Though she knows it is not true, deep down her heart refuses to listen to her. She makes sure he doesn't see her tears and turns to him and says,

"You should stay away from doing something you might be sorry for later on."

Vansh: I won't be sorry for anything later. I know what I'm doing. You know right, Vansh life

Ridhima cuts in the middle and says,

"is always set. Only happens what he desires for."

Vansh: You look as if you want to move away from this relation?

Ridhima: (smiles): Is that what you want?

Vansh: Never

Ridhima is hurt. Deeply hurt. His lies are never-ending. She moves away from his closeness and says

"I heard Dadi saying tomorrow your other Chachu will arrive. Kailash Rai Singhania."

Vansh: Oh! Nice. Chachu is coming back.

Ridhima: Looks like, you like him more than Rudr Chachu.

Vansh: He is a good man.

Ridhima: If you say so. Good Night Vansh.

Vansh: Is there anything you want to say to me?

Ridhima: Nada.

Vansh can feel something wrong with Ridhima. Yet he brushes his thoughts off thinking due to household work. However, he needs to work on his plan. In the coming days, he will try to get the relationship status of Ridhima with Kabir and make sure to leave her soon. He is unable to breathe the same air as her. What he doesn't know is unknowingly his heart has started to sing a new rhythm called Riddhima. It has started to feel good when he is near her.

The Next Day

Ridhima is prepared with food and clothes for poor people. Vansh has sat for the puja along with the rest of the family while she is running hither and thither to make things work.

Chanchal who sees this and thinks it's the right time to make sure her plan works steps up into the action mode. She goes near the food canter and mixes with some powder which causes stomach pain for the people who eat the food. Also, she sends some box of rats to the clothes room.

Ridhima comes and joins the puja along with the rest of the family and it's time to give away the food and clothes to the needy people.

Dadi: Ridhima, is everything ready?

Ridhima: Yes, Dadi.

Everyone reaches the clothes sector first and gets shocked to see what happened with the clothes. Chanchal is the first one to react.

"Oh My God! What happened? Ridhima is this how you do it? Maa has entrusted you with such important work and you failed in it? Of course, what can we expect from an orphan girl? Did you ever do Shradh for your parents? I mean, common you don't even know them, so obviously you cannot do anything for them?"

At the same time TV suddenly gets played in the house while everyone is shocked to see Chanchal leaving a box of rats and mixing some powder in the food.

Seeing Ridhima in tears, Dadi reaches to the Chanchal and slaps her, and says,

"How many times I told you, don't hurt this girl. Why don't you listen to me? What she did to you Chanchal? That today you even risked all of our lives? If anything happens to those people who would have taken the responsibility? You have once made sure to spoil her Kheer on the day of Dasara. Today, this? What to do with you? Shall I send you to your home? That's better. Rudra and Aryan don't need you anymore as they are grown-ups. Even I don't need you. So why should I need you in this house? "

Chanchal doesn't know what she should do. She never thought someone would record her actions and play like this. She doesn't even know who did this. She looked at her husband and son for help. They just turned their faces away. She has no idea what to do if Chandrika sends her back home. She falls on the Dadi legs and ask for forgiveness but gets intervenes by Mohan,

"This is a murder attempt and at the same time defamation against one's character. Mrs Ridhima, if you want, you can file against Chanchal Rudr Rai Singhania, we will take her under custody."

Chanchal is hell scared now. She never thought her act would cause her to fall in her grave itself.

She reaches to Ridhima and says,

"Please Ridhima. Save me. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done this against you. But, please sorry, Ridhima. As an orphan, please understand the relations which you just received. Please forgive me."

Ridhima: Why do you always call me orphan Chachi? Who said orphans are the one who doesn't have parents? You are the real orphan. Yes, everyone in this house is an orphan. Who cannot love someone and at the same time, cannot receive love from someone. Always plotting against each other and try to pull others down. Tell me Chachi, give me one good reason why I should leave you?

If there was no evidence against you, Mohan might have arrested me. Would you have been able to reveal the truth at that time? No right? Then tell me why I should help you? One good reason.

I'm asking everyone in the house, why I should save Chanchal Chachi after what she did? Leave me aside. What about those harmless people. How could you think to harm them for your reasons? Why?

"You are right my dear one should never leave who commits a horrible crime",

says someone from behind.

Dadi is the first one to react and hugs him saying,

"Kailash".

Ridhima stood rooted at the place. She somehow couldn't move from the place. For some reason, she was feeling uneasy. She immediately reaches to catch hold of Vansh's hand as some timid cat and Vansh is taken back by her sudden demeanour.

Kailash hugs back Dadi and reaches near Ridhima while Vansh somehow stands between them so that Kailash doesn't get Ridhima's full view. Vansh thinks to ask her later about her awkward behaviour and for now he should close this issue, so he turns towards Mohan and says,

"Inspector Mohan, we are glad you are ready to help us but I don't think we would file any complaint about now. So you may please leave."

While Mohan leaves the place, Vansh reaches to Chanchal Chachi and stares at her, and says,

"Last warning, Chachi. This is the third time you are trying to harm her. If I ever come across you even thinking to harm her, then I might reveal my hidden side to you. I won't think twice to shoot you. Yesterday itself everyone asked me for my trust. While I'm giving a chance to it, take it. If you cross the line, then ready to die. I repeat, be ready to die."

While Kailash is keenly looking at Ridhima and for some unknown reason Ridhima unable to calm her nerves and at the same time they hear another voice at the entrance which is a major shock for Chanchal and Aryan

"Ridhima, here I come my love," says Sejal.
