Oh trust me....if her intention was to insult me....I would have given her back much more.....I am not a very politically correct person...but she was a nice woman and I thought she was genuinely curious....no harm in that....I always look for the intention of the people....In Anjali's case clearly the intention of the train driver was to disrespect her since he was not asking anyone else for ticket....big difference.

Yes! A lot of times. Either you can choose to feel victimized by it, or you can disregard it and keep blazing forward in your own path. There will always be ignorance in this world, but you should never let any of that define you or deeply affect you. I'm proud of my identity and don't really give a shite what anybody else thinks!

Once my neighbours ( very sweet old English couple) met me outside and just started chatting and then discussion moved to cricket since there was India-Pakistan cricket match a day before so they started talking about it and they automatically assumed i am a pakistani and started talking in that way showing how they like some pakistani players and it's a good team etc etc so i smiled and told them i am not interested in cricket but my hubby was supporting india since we are indians and they were so shocked turned completely red and apologized to me so many times 😆

Second incident happened at work when i was new and working with this gujrati woman from indian origin (born and bought up in u.k) so excitedly i told her i am from india and she automatically assumed i am a hindu and started going on and on about how bad pakistanis are then she moved to muslims are this and muslims are that ....i just kept doing my work quietly and didn't say anything. After a couple of days ramadan started so i told her i am fasting as its ramadan ....one should have seen her face 😆She worked with me for 2 more days and then changed her team 😆

3rd incident happened when i accompanied my pakistani friend to an arabic/quran teaching school/childcare center to enquire about her kids so the lady greeted us and asked us where we were from etc etc ...they were fine with my friend who told them she is from pakistan but when i told them i am from india they were slightly confused , they said to me do you realise this is a islamic school/nursery so i said yes so the lady said you realise we are muslims and we teach arabic and quran here so i said yes i know even though i am from india but i am also a muslim

Oh you should hear the reasons some of them use to justify colonialism, apparently we all were 'savages' and 'heathens' and they saved us and taught us how to live like a cultured human being😆

There are all kind of people every where.

Like in India, you will find people blaming a rape victim and some people screaming for capital punishment for rapists. Some attitudes are so deeply ingrained in cultures that it’s difficult to get it completely out of people’s mindsets. It takes a few centuries at least, it also depends on how people or colonialism has been depicted in their education system.

The jungle book is actually very racist. Rudyard Kipling was a very racist man. Read about it..somehow it’s still read as a children’s book & people don’t find it offensive . Even the Indian national anthem is said to be controversial as it was supposedly written by Rabindranath Tagore to welcome the Queen who didn’t really like being told to write for her.

Honestly though, most of them use such reasons to feel good about themselves, the whole savior complex. There is a reason why the focus is always on caste system and abolition of Sati and hardly on the atrocities they committed. In the past few months the mentions have already increased, especially after the calls for removal of Churchill's statue. There were a lot of justifications which came up. It was then that it became apparent that even the neutrals inherently think of colonialism as something which 'saved' the subcontinent.
