Param Bir Singh – the Mumbai Police Commissioner has an illustrious past.
A past that raises the question of the integrity of a law enforcement officer sitting in the highest office of law enforcement in India’s financial capital, Mumbai.
A former bureaucrat of the Indian government, RV Subramani, in an interview with me inferred that Param Bir Singh got placed in the Mumbai Police Commissioner chair because of a powerful corporate lobby.
The representative of Indian Bulls that approached RV Subramani to ease-off on his accusations on Param Bir Singh stated that the corporate lobby will be investing Rs 500 crore to ensure that they get the Mumbai Police Commissioner they seek.
Incidentally, Param Bir Singh’s wife is a Director of India Bulls.
RV Subramani wrote about this incident in a letter to the Minister of Home Affairs keeping him informed about this interaction.
I do not want to delve into the skeletons in the closet of Param Bir Singh. However, I do want to focus on the deliberate omission of certain facts in his malicious attempt to target the Republic Media Network and its Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami.
I have always respected an officer of the law. Like all institutions, I believe an individual can be corrupt or dishonest but that in no way applies to the institution; unless there is a systemic form of dishonesty and corruption.
In the Mumbai Police too, today, I believe it is the dishonesty and probable corruption of one individual that is dragging the entire goodwill of the institution down to an abysmal level.
Let me at the onset state that Param Bir Singh had as a Mumbai Police Commissioner every right to investigate the TRP scam. That is his duty.
But, the questionable and shocking error, Param Bir Singh made in his desperation to settle personal and political brownie scores with Arnab Goswami is to take the name of Republic TV and ignore the name of India Today, which is the company named in the FIR.
Why did Param Bir Singh ignore India Today in his press conference? Is there is quid pro quo between Aroon Purie of India Today and the Mumbai Police Commissioner?
A righteous police officer would have taken the name of the company named in the FIR but he did not.
This deliberate omission by Param Bir Singh reeks of well-hatched conspiracy in which political, media, and law enforcement have decided to come together to target and attack Republic Media Network and Arnab Goswami – legally, financially, and mentally.
The conspiracy is a directive coming from the global terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, who believes that post the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, Bollywood and Drugs are getting too much focus in media, in particular, Republic TV.
A senior intelligence officer in confidence told that a ‘Supari’ of USD 50 million dollars has been set aside to target Republic TV and Arnab Goswami by Dawood. Their primary and sole objective is to shut down the Republic Media Network.
NIA must investigate if the current targetting on Arnab Goswami and Republic TV has got funding from across the border then it is a matter of national security and an attack on India’s democratic principles.
Incidentally, this plan got confirmed by a Congress leader in a sting operation conducted by Republic TV at the Congress office in Mumbai. The Congress leader Raghvendra Shukla stated, “The objective is clear, to shut down Republic TV and this is just the beginning of the target on Republic TV and Arnab Goswami.”
The Supreme Court and now the High Court has pulled up Param Bir Singh for going to the media while there is an ongoing investigation on the TRP scam.
In fact in the Bombay High Court yesterday, Kapil Sibal, a lawyer for the Maharashtra Government and Mumbai Police stated, “Republic TV is not mentioned in the FIR and Arnab Goswami is not an accused. The investigations are at a premature stage and we will not go to the media.”
Param Bir Singh’s past is in the past but his present is also not one of integrity.
In fact, Hasan Gafoor, who was the Mumbai Commissioner of Police during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, had accused senior police officials, including Param Bir Singh of not taking on the terrorists. Gafoor had said Joint Commissioner in-charge of law and order K.L. Prasad, Crime Branch Additional Commissioner Deven Bharati, southern region Additional Commissioner K. Venkatesham, and Anti-Terrorism Squad Additional Commissioner of Police Param Bir Singh “did not appear keen on responding to situation”.
Param Bir Singh is displaying dangerous shades of grey. He is blatantly exhibiting to the people of India that a person in his haloed positioning of power can misuse his power to target any citizen of the country with lies, false charges, and intimidation because he is the Mumbai Police Commissioner.
The position of the Mumbai Police Commissioner has been compromised by Param Bir Singh. He has turned it into his personal fiefdom to target Republic TV and Arnab Goswami.
He cannot continue in this office to serve the people of Mumbai because his integrity has been compromised and lack of credibility is out in the open for the world to be shocked and mock about.
Param Bir Singh is the Commissioner of Omission!
The omission of his sworn duty to uphold the Constitution of India and the Laws of India.
The omission to protect the rights and liberties of the citizens under his care.
The omission of putting integrity and honesty of law enforcement principles above all political pressures.
The omission of respectability that comes to the chair of the Mumbai Police Commissioner that he sits on.
Param Bir Singh has single-handedly brought disrespect to the institution of the Mumbai Police. He must be asked to resign or removed.
