Nope! I still think he’s just a mid level star tbh. Yes he can make four films do decent/profitable business but that’s it.. he will never be able to go higher than that, as in deliver those “event” films with record opening or biggest grossers, why? Because his model/market won’t allow it.. there’s hardly any gap between his films, there’s an Akshay trailer releasing literally every week/month (oversaturation etc/it's just too much). Besides that there's usually an Akshay movie in the theaters every three months.. making it impossible for ppl to see each and every one of them.. money/time etc
So, not only it's not possible for everyone to show up for his nth movie in a short period, the audience is divided too.. I mean, he’s all over the place, from horrifying (house full series) to random half-assed biographies or as some call them his desh-bakhti series.. so he can't keep the few neutral audiences that do show up.. That's why movies usually end up doing more or less the same amount.. there's no growth and I don't think his fan base has grown either.. twitter just makes everything seem bigger than it actually is.. For example, ppl who show up for Babyy(?) or his only other decent movie with someone like Neeraj Pandey, get disappointed when he follows it up with a movie like that Toilet one; (ok, these are just examples, I don't know the correct timeline of his movies, I mean does anyone? there are so many of them, phew 😳) so anyway, they usually then end up skipping his next. Similarly, ppl who maybe tolerate/like that Mission to Mars movie..usually don't go really go for the Housefulls or that GoodNews(?), erm is it spelt GoodNewws.. GodNewss? lol 😆
So in short, it's his fan-base +- 10%-20% neutral audience- depending on (genre, director, cast) = 120-150 crores. In comparison Aamir's one movie does at least 10x more.. Salman's (at the peak of his "second phase") does tripple as much.. Also, since he's known for making "quickies", there's no anticipation of something "extra-ordinary", you know hype wise etc. It'd have been really interesting to see how his Rohit Shetty movie would have done.. but yeah, imo he's stretched himself too thin.
