So many of us living in cities live in our own bubbles and not aware of the cruel caste system. My mom who worked as an government teacher in a village , saw it first hand. The Dalit children are separated from the other children by the teachers and sometimes not even allowed to use the common bathroom. My mother, as the Headmistress of the school, is authorised to appoint a cook for the mid day meals. When she appointed a Dalit woman, some teachers and children refused to eat😡.

Not that cities are exempt from this discrimination. But, there , it’s more Of an implicit bias.

Sorry, but caste matters. lower caste people are subjected to caste-related violence and that is different from regular violence against upper caste people. So yes, when a member of a marginalized group is attacked, then caste matters.

Which claims have not been true. When Nirbhaya incident happened , entire India protested , the most tweeted hashtags was of justice for Nirbhaya , entire India came on streets to protest , after few years another rape incident which got similar coverage is Hyderabad rape incident. Everyday we read rape incidents , sexual violence against dalits in the 2nd or 3rd page of our newspaper , usually the spot which go unnoticed. The civil society and media is least interested in the atrocities against dalits. The caste, creed, locality all matters , if the incident happened in metros or cities and the victim is middle class or upper class girl it is easy for people to relate with it . Somewhere we normalise the sexual violence against dalit women because we have the impression that it is their fate to go through this hardships .The dalit rape is not just imposing male superiority but caste superiority as well.

I wish atleast one of the mainstream media give extensive coverage , half importance like "justice for Sushant " , it is high time to sensitize this issue. Otherwise just like they cremated the body of hathras gangrape victim girl ignoring the protest of parents that too in the presence of police many dalits girls body will be buried .

The mainstream media needs to stop being vultures at the moment and the focus on the basic need of the hour of humanity. Instead of politicizing the game in a state which they want to target, can Arnab scream the same way to Yogi ji and ask for answers?

Imagine if the Mumbai police cremated the body of any of these actors ignoring the protests of the parents! This needs a Nirbhaya level of movement for reminding people of today’s reality and the need to protect women

I am so sorry if my comment was coming across as insensitive. All I was trying to say is that very few of these tabloids and politicians really care for the plight of the girl and her family and the plight of the lower caste people. Otherwise, things would’ve changed long time back or at least looking to improve. People will cry for sometime and move on to the next thing on hand which can be used to further their agendas.

Coming to the caste system in India, it is deep rooted and is found in each and every aspect of our lives. Growing up I have seen first hand, how they get marginalized in just about everything.

But literally no one is interested in improving the lives of these marginalized people. They are just nurtured as the vote banks and that’s where their existence begins and ends for these so called politicians(on both sides).
