Is 2020 Worst Year for Content?

There have been so many failures this year - Chhapak, Panga, Street Dancer, Malang, Love Aaj Kal, Bhoot, Baaghi 3 had an awful story too..... SMZS also underperformed ....

OTT movies were not as good either - Gulabo Sitabo, Gunjun, Sadak 2... most are saying they didn’t like Dil Bechara and Shakuntala Devi as well.

Nothings to do with the Coronavirus but it seems like films this year have gone downhill based on content.

I liked Jawani Janeman, Lootcase and Thappad but even they weren’t “wow” or pathbreaking. I feel like I haven’t seen a really really good movie in a longtime

(I’m not including any web series in this just movies that would’ve released in the theatres)

Tanhaji was actually a really good movie.

But you're right, otherwise there was nothing really pathbreaking this year.

What are you saying? The best film of all time is released in 2020 itself according to imdb

I personally liked Thappad, Panga, Gulabo Sitabo, Shakuntala Devi and Gunjan Saxena all.

I found SMZS, Chapaak OK.

Haven't yet watched Tanhaji.

But the year is a mixed bag just like all others. Don't forget, the no. of movies has drastically reduced because of the pandemic.

I think the last couple of years has seen a decline in film quality. So what you are experiencing now has been slowly happening since around 2014.

Also 2020 has not been the best year for all of us personally due to COVID. The delay of film releases, shift to OTT and lack of promotions are also making you feel that.

I guess but there would still be a handful of films that I usually like ever year and have been really good - this year has been dry

2014 - Queen was amazing - I also enjoyed films like 2 States, Ek Villain, Mary Kom... I even enjoyed the typical Bollywood movies like Bang Bang

2015 - IMO was an amazing year - Baby, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Piku, TWMR, DDD, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Drishyam, Pyar Ka Punchnama, Bajirao

2016: Airlift, Neerja, Rustom, Pink, Dangal

2017: Mom, Toilet, Bareilly Ki Barfi, Shubh Mangal, Savdaan, Secret Superstar, Tiger Zinda Hai

2018: Padmaavat, Sonu Ki Titu Ki Sweety, Hichki, Stree, Badhai Ho, Kedarnat, Simmba

2019: URI, Gully Boy, Badla, Chicchore, War (for the experience), Mardaani 2 , Good Newz

But this year I feel like none of the movies match up to the above - I can’t say I liked anything this year

Well yeah but if you notice the number of good films has gone down every year. This year we've been so busy with a pandemic that most of the films have either been shifted to OTT or haven't released.

Some of the films you have mentioned are more masala and there's been so proper promo or release for them due to COVID. So theres no hype, irrespective of them being good or bad films.

Its a slow year overall...everything seems dry.
