Shahid, who is dating teen heartthrob Kareena Kapoor, admits he's uncomfortable when his ladylove Kareena kapoor has to run around trees and romance other co-stars in her films. The experience of Fida, Chameli, Hulchul and Aitraaz has been absolutely galling, the actor says

"How can a lover feel good when he sees his sweetheart in someone else's arms? Although I don't like it, what can I do? Both of us happen to be in a profession where this is a requirement. I am pained each time I see Kareena kapoor in someone else's arms. It is difficult for me to accept the situation. But think I will get used to it after some time," he says.

At the same time Shahid insists he never lets personal emotions cloud his professional judgement. According to him, he didn't turn down Karan Johar's Kaal because in the past Kareena kapoor had done the same: "It's unfair to drag Kareena kapoor into the whole episode. People think I followed Kareena kapoor's example to refuse a film with Karan Johar. The truth is Kareena kapoor didn't have anything to do with my decision. It was not at all easy for me to say no to Kaal. Such offers are rare for a newcomer like me. I had personal reasons for taking such a decision and I regret that. Moreover Karan wanted me to work continuously for 50 days on his film and I didn't have more than 30 days to spare. I had given dates to John Matthew Matthan and there were other commitments that I needed to fulfill. I know that after every film I turn down, people will concoct reasons of their own and start spreading rumours."
