I've heard all three versions and have to say that Anand-Milind'Sameer's was the clear winner. Yes, the song belongs to a composer-lyricist, not an actor. That dholak-tabla theka and sound is another level. Some interesting trivia I found by the composers:

You have been accused of picking up tunes from A R Rahman and Illayaraja.

Anand: Out of 1,600 songs that we composed there must be seven or eight that have been accused of plagiarism. We were forced by the producer and director. They just wanted to copy a particular tune that they liked. Today, I regret what we did. I should have put my foot down and refused.

An article from 1993:

Anand-Milind: Sons of music director Chitragupt, Anand-Milind did six films before hitting the jackpot with Qayamat se Qayamat Tak in 1988. They've had major hits with Dil, Beta, Bol Radha Bol and this year's Anaari. They have been accused of, and have admitted to, lifting Ilaiyaraja's tunes. Dhak Dhak was a carbon copy. "That was due to pressure," says Milind.

The original number was designed to showcase the dancing abilities of Chiranjeevi and Sridevi. Both were given the same steps and dance movements and they performed those steps in their own way.

Beta copied the tune from the original Telugu movie to show case Madhuri Dixit's dance moves to similar beats.

The mood of both songs is totally different. The context of the song placement in the movie is also different.

So there can be no comparisons between the two songs

Sridevi is so beautiful. Her daughters would be considered pretty in their own right, but when compared to her pale in compaision. The same for Dimple Kapadia's daughters and Hema Malini daughters, Dharmendra sons or even Jeetandra's children. Maybe it skips a generation?
