It shouldn't happen to anybody, but life continues to throw up unpleasant surprises just when we think that all's going well. And this is exactly what happened with Sanjay Dutt. Anxiously waiting for COVID-19 to get over, the Munnabhai star could not wait to get back on the sets of biggies like 'Bhuj', 'Prithviraj', 'Shamshera' and 'KGF 2'.

A source tells ETimes, "On Saturday, August 8, Sanjay felt breathless and sought medical advice. He was very anxious to know if he had contracted COVID-19 because he had found on his oximeter at home that his oxygen levels had dropped. Sanjay was then advised to come over to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital (Bandra) where they could even check him for COVID-19. At this point, he informed the hospital authorities that he had already got himself tested for the virus in question and the result had come negative. However, it was still bothering him that what if he had been infected with COVID-19

Another source says, "Sanjay was accompanied by his sister Priya Dutt and a friend. Upon reaching the hospital, it was detected that air entry was not happening from his right lung. A CT scan further revealed that there was fluid accumulation in his right lung (pleural effusion) accompanied by two lesions, one on each lung.

Sanjay was told that it could be a bacterial infection, tuberculosis, an adverse effect of strenuous exercise wherein he might have hurt himself, or cancer. The fluid was removed, the volume was as high as 1.5 litres. A 2-day hospitalisation followed.

Sanju kept asking a lot of questions especially when he was told that the extracted fluid was about to be sent for detailed diagnosis."

Yet another source adds, "The actor was then told that he would have to undergo a PET scan. And just as the PET scan was nearing completion (on August 10, Monday), the histopathology department had found that the fluid had cancer cells. The PET scan also confirmed cancer.

A counselling session was immediately held and Sanjay was told about his ailment. Thereafter, Sanjay was sent to an oncologist who gave him a detailed explanation of the Plan Of Action. He was given the option to go wherever he wants just in case he wants to get it treated abroad. Chemotherapy is the only line of treatment, no surgery can be done at this juncture in this case. It's Stage 4 and depending on the medicines, the treatment (chemotherapy) will be broken down into a certain number of cycles.

We reached out to Dr Jalil Parkar, Senior Pulmonary Consultant & DNB Teacher under whom Sanjay was admitted in Lilavati. Dr Parkar said, "At this point, I would not disclose details as the patient's confidentiality needs to be maintained."

Really sad way to find out.... But then there is no good way to find out about cancer...

Wasn't his mother also having cancer..... And her death pushed him into drugs.....

He was already on drugs even when she was alive.. His dad was his anchor else his life would've been ruined way beyond repair. And Manyata seems to have stabilized it to some extent

Do they tell the patient about cancer right away? Don't they tell about it to the relatives first?
