Maybe I'm the only one.. but I never understood the craze for the likes of Jacky/Anil/Sanjay Dutt.. they just never appealed to me.

They just represented a period of transition from AB Senior's craze to Khans' craze...they were never really that big or popular

You just haven't watched the right movies of these three. As far as I am concerned, you love the character first and then the actor in that order. Since you seem to like Notebook, I'd recommend

Me too. Aamir's character was very insecure,immature and very much a teenager's first crush. Jackie on the other hand was confident and classy and very much a man. Very reserved (not many people knew about his first tragic love story) and kept all the filmi suckups at a distance. No bitching about the original heroine even when she and her mother wasted a day's shoot. And no whining or dirty tricks when it became clear that Urmila preferred Aamir. He was proud enough that he didn't want her pity.Plus he was nice enough to drive Urmila all through the night to bring her to her true love.
