They just represented a period of transition from AB Senior's craze to Khans' craze...they were never really that big or popular
Anil Kapoor was/is one ugly man...but he looks a little bit less hideous with a tache than without.. cue Lamhe

You just haven't watched the right movies of these three. As far as I am concerned, you love the character first and then the actor in that order. Since you seem to like Notebook, I'd recommend
Parinda -Bond between brothers Jackie shroff and Anil Kapoor is tested when one is involved in killing the other's best friend. How far will you go for revenge? What choices will you make?)
Kaash - Divorced parents are brought together by their dying kid to spend the last family vacation.Their reconciliation at the end is unbelievable but the child dying is sadly realistic. The film is realistic in the parts depicting how financial pressures and alcoholism contribute to divorces more than infidelity.
Naam -Yet another reinterpretation of Deewar by one of the orginal writers Salim.Just watch Sanjay Dutt's death scene at the end without a single spoken word)

Me too. Aamir's character was very insecure, immature and very much a teenager's first crush. Jackie on the other hand was confident and classy and very much a man. Very reserved (not many people knew about his first tragic love story) and kept all the filmi suckups at a distance. No bitching about the original heroine even when she and her mother wasted a day's shoot. And no whining or dirty tricks when it became clear that Urmila preferred Aamir. He was proud enough that he didn't want her pity.Plus he was nice enough to drive Urmila all through the night to bring her to her true love.
Yes! I was going to say that. So suave, gentleman and handsome compared to Aamir who was a gonda.
He is not main lead actor. He is second lead to Anil Kapoor & Sanjay Dutt.
