age-shaming

Indians have a habit of calling people aunty, uncle, didi, behen, when trying to put them down. They think slyly saying someone is old is an insult.

Sorry. Buy you are wrong. You are not Indian so you should stop giving out verdicts and certificates.

Didi is used as respect and so is uncle and aunt. Growing up we were taught to call elders who are close to parents age as Uncles and Aunts. It’s not an Indian culture to call elders by their name.

My 3 years old daughter calls my American neighbors Uncle and Aunt (I am sure she is age-shaming them 🤪) and they think it’s very sweet. Neighbor guy says They as a kid also used to address elders as uncles and aunts. But American culture changed over the years. So it’s not only an Indian thing and definitely not bad thing as you are trying to spin here.

It’s not a slang. It’s meme language.

Yaha pe politically correct logo ko bura kab jayega but it’s nothing offensive.

I personally find it hilarious.

Le Didi

Le Uncle

Le Aunty

Le so n so.

Nah, you're wrong. I'm Indian-American and know very well how the desi community behaves. Don't you live in the US too? 🤪

I don't know why you gave that example when that's an established relationship between people who know and like each other. Indians *do* use terms like aunty and uncle and didi to age-shame, especially online when they're arguing with someone. Age is a regular insult they swerve towards.
