What are some dark and depressing movies which you liked and found engrossing/interesting? Also, which you found well-made?

For me:

1. Bulbbul -- I loved the movie for its offbeat take and found it strange, haunting and yet beautiful.

2. Article 15 - A movie which gripped me from start to finish. Found it an extremely layered and realistic in a gritty, self-assured way.

3. Badlapur - Not the usual revenge drama, but a psychologically taut and well-made movie. Left a deep impact on me.

What are some dark and depressing movies you have liked from BW?

Andhadhun had some dark humor and it’s fun to watch but I think you’re looking for something along the lines of .... well I can’t think of any cuz I’m past my breaking bad phase and enjoy mostly happy or entertaining stuff now.

I also prefer feel-good movies because they have repeat value. I can watch Queen and Badhai Ho again and again because they give me that sense of holistic entertainment.

But sometimes, I don't mind dark/depressing movies if they are well-made and can keep me hooked. Like the examples I mentioned.

Same. Have you watched Haider? Great acting by shahid, tabu, etc and it’s pretty dark and depressing too.

Hmm when it comes to dark and depressing, the only movie that made me massively contemplate life was the South Korean movie Oldboy. It was on my mind for a whole week. Damn that movie!

But if y'all really want some depressing shit, there are movies like- Matroobhoomi, Sophie's choice, Irreversible, Boy in striped pajamas, Requiem for a dream, the killing fields. Goddam these movies!

Already you have mentioned 3 :

From my side, although ,I try to stay away from such movies as they are horrifying to watch :

1) Shakespeare trilogy ones : Maqbool, Omkara, Haider

2) NH10 ( Honour Killing and the way they showed the reality)

3) Ugly ( It still gives me goosebumps when I think of it)

4) Gulaal ( Damn it's based on ragging and politics, very disturbing)

5) Udta Punjab

And there are many (,I am able to recall these at present)which I ended up liking but such movies, I can watch only once, can't watch it twice.

Good choices👍🏼

Yes, you are right about watching such movies only once. I saw Udta Punjab and found it super-horrifying in parts. Could hardly sit through it, though I liked it on the whole.

I'm sure I'm missing many, but...

Udaan, Guzaarish, Shaitan, Satya, Sarkar series, Gangs of Wasseypur

Off the top of my head,

Guzaarish - The background itself is that of euthanasia, but even though it made me cry, it was beautifully laced with the positive message about the outlook on life.

Karthik Calling Karthik - It has quite a few fun moments (Farhan and Deepika have such underrated chemistry fhs) but boy, what happens to Farhan is pretty depressing. This song doesn't help :
