The smaller directors don't get automatic funding for their projects, so having a star kid attached to your project helps because through connections they can secure some financing which will help get the movie made. Even if the film ever gets stuck, they know someone like an Anil Kapoor will pull any strings to get the film released.

Yes, it may not be their ideal casting, but if they direct well, they can still make a 7/10 or an 8/10 film instead of a 9/10 or a 10/10 film. But what's the point of making a 9/10 or 10/10 movie, when it will never get proper funding or distrbuting to see a wide release in theatres? So these directors make that compromise.

I don't think they have some conspiracy to help starkids thrive. They are just trying to survive in this cut-throat business.

SLB casted 2 starkids in their debut.

Rohit took Sara.

Hirani took Kareena after having nationwide auditions for 3 idiots. Anushka tape is there to see.

Most of the elitists are in this systemic nepotism.

Kjo leads from the Front.

That's why it's big when a Ranveer gets an SLB film.

Or a Rajkumar gets success back to back.

Same for an ayushman who has had multiple careers from failed auditions in reality shows to roadies to VJ to hosting to now acting and singing.

Nepotism is so deep. An outsider has to really really go after what he or she wants if they wanna make it big.

Bollywood mafia's don't let others take a spotlight.

It goes for actors, actresses, directors, producers.

It's like a company has right to employ who ever they want , but it's not ethical for them to call other companies HR and ask that don't employ this person or give all your best projects to my chosen people give the leftovers small project to this guy.

Lets say, imitiaz did not wanted to cast alia bhatt in highway, kjo begged him to cast her, and kjo does not have money but he have influence, alia career started coz of this, on the contrast the year alia debuted Yami Gautam in Vicky donor and illeana D'Cruz in barfi debuted with awards and applause from critic and public alike , both of them did not get any good work for next 5 years, illeana goes on to suffer depression and body disorder, mentally when you get success and after that you are still rejected by your peers, you get no decent work and treated as trash by insider ,it is going to affect certain level.

Also to add, highway was used to propagate alia, called Meryl Streep bcz she did ok job, Randeep who should had won awards, got nothing from it and was sidelined similar thing happend with sushant who got sidelined in kedarnath promotion to after sucess for eugenics ki beti sara, and cycle would repeat with annanya , suhana etc.

I would reiterate what I wrote the other day.

It's not the fault of one individual, but a flawed ecosystem which is to blame. Karan Johar's behaviour, elite snobbish attitude and bullying does make him culpable.

But to blame him for the death of Sushant is too much. Karan is enabled by people all around -- including us. Some of us are too shy to call a spade a spade. I have seen posts on this very forum defending nepotism. I have seen how people would comment frequently on threads of nepotistic products, but ignore threads of talented outsiders or attribute their success to other factors e.g. in Ayushman's case.

This is not the fault of one individual. This is a toxic culture and unhealthy obsession with mediocrity which ruined Sushant's life.

Same logic used with Abhishek. Their dads are too powerful. Probably Boney and Amitabh invest in their sons'projects through a benami, so that it doesn't look like they're producing themselves. Or probably they give some kind of financial assurance to the producers that if the project fails, they will save the production house from going bankrupt.

No one is saying execute Kjo and his gang for causing SSR death. The backlash if not suicide should be wakeup call for them. Set aside common public look at what Anubhav Sinha and Nikhil Diwedi who are from film industry have spoken, they see it and hear it everyday of what goes around.

Kjo and gang is not the sole reason were atleast one of the factors which driven one person to take this drastic step.

We need to admit that heroines don't really matter in the larger scheme of things. It's much easier for a director to compromise on a heroine than on a hero, because mostly the heroine is just the to look pretty and do some songs and a couple of scenes.

That's why I wouldn't count Sara being cast by Rohit Shetty in Simbaa or Kareena in 3 idiots. Their roles were mostly insignificant.

SLB worked with Ranbir and Sonam prior to launching them. He saw their potential and launched them. He was right in case of Ranbir and Sonam didn't have much acting to do in Saawariya, apart from look pretty, which she did. It's the same logic about compromise on heroines that I spoke about earlier.

But I agree otherwise about systemic nepotism. It's a reality. I was just saying that the directors who do not want to participate in this end up participating in it because they have to look after their own survival first.
