Ujjwal Sharma claims he was branded guilty after Sanchita Ugale's death: 'I never got a chance to speak'

Television actor Ujjwal Sharma has spoken publicly for the first time since allegations surfaced following the death of his Saajan Ghar co star, Sanchita Ugale. Denying the accusations made against him, the actor said he was subjected to online abuse, death threats and public judgment before the investigation reached any conclusion.

Sanchita died by suicide in June. After her death, actor Indraxi Kanjilal alleged that Ujjwal had mentally harassed the late actor and claimed he had borrowed money from her and later threatened her. The allegations remain unverified, while the police investigation into the case is still in progress.

Speaking to Bombay Times, Ujjwal said, "My reputation was destroyed overnight. People started judging me without knowing my side of the story." He added that the backlash quickly escalated across social media, with many people assuming his guilt before any official findings.

Recalling the impact on his personal life, the actor said, "I started receiving death threats. My family was dragged into it, and they were terrified. It was emotionally exhausting because I didn't even get a chance to speak." According to him, the constant criticism also affected his mental well being.

After Sanchita's demise, screenshots of alleged conversations related to the controversy surfaced online. However, their authenticity has not been independently verified. Ujjwal maintained that he has fully cooperated with the authorities and believes the investigation will establish the facts.

Expressing confidence in the legal process, he said, "I have faith in the legal process. I know what the truth is, and I am waiting for the investigation to conclude." He also urged people not to rely solely on social media narratives while the matter remains under investigation.

Ujjwal further expressed condolences to Sanchita's family. "What happened is extremely unfortunate. I pray for her family and hope they find strength during this difficult time," he said.

Sanchita Ugale was known for her performances in Kumkum Bhagya and Saajan Ghar. Following her death, police registered an Accidental Death Report and began an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the case. So far, authorities have not established criminal liability against anyone. The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations against Ujjwal Sharma have not been proven in court.
