My nanaji died at 82, and till then he was able to do hard Yoga posture

Dadi died at 80 and till a year before her death she fasted for Chhatt puja (which involves practically 4 days continuos fasting and 36+ hours continuous fast without even a drop of water)

There might have been people who were more fit n healthy

Absolutely, they can but so fit to have been part of a war and fighting it at the age of 100+ seems unnatural to me

Don’t kill me for this but Bheeshma did stay on bed for months, what if he actually died from a long lasting disease? The way his death is described, it's just difficult for anyone, even the fittest one to live, after such a huge blood loss and injury to his vitals

Exactly. Unless he was gifted and the ichhyamrityu vardaan is correct. But speaking biology, I am sure his NERVES were affected due to so many arrows no? Also, excessive blood loss, damage of internals. It is practically impossible for a 100+ old man to be OKAY in such a stage.

🙃 I am gonna write it down

What if by Icchamrityu, they meant suicide, like in that movie Gujarish, after suffering for days he finally asked Arjun to put him to rest, there's a conversation between him and Arjuna after the battle where he asks him to make a pillow with his arrows, the bond is beautiful

Ichhyamrityu is definitely suicide. I think he most probably died after the battle with Arjun, at most he could have survived for a few days and then died of his injuries.

I love love Bhishma Arjun bond. It reminds me of my own grand father :)

FlauntPessimism was saying in one thread that had Bhishma not have had that oath of brahmacharya, she could be sure Bhishma was the one who fathered Arjun 🤣 I was so inclined to believe this xD

That would mean entire Bheeshm Parva is wrong

Not necessarily

As wounds are party for microorganisms, he might have developed a lethal infection on battlefield, I read that in world war more people died of wound infection, development of antiseptic techniques is fairly recent

What Mahabharata does is give more importance to key players but foot Soldiers and other warriors do play a huge role in protecting key players

No if he had so many wounds it's impossible he could have survived for so long

That was exaggerated to give him a heroic death, the war deals with death of key players in exaggerated manner

More than 1000 arrows piercing him in the vitals, it is written that not a single part of his body remained without wound, I picture a sieve at this moment, it's not possible for anyone to live after this

No i think what she meant is bhishma died due to his injuries, you know infections. He basically got Arjun to kill him and of course if you are not tended to (he didn't allow himself to be tended because he decided to stay in the bed of arrows i guess) you'll develop infections.. So she means suicide as in letting himself die in pain.. I think
