Deepika Padukone shares her pains and gains in the industry with Shubha Shetty-Saha

Soon after her debut in Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om, Deepika Padukone made news — professionally and on the personal front too. Even though she is in the limelight all the time, Deepika insists that she's a very shy person.

"I have opened up very little over the years. That comes from my dad (badminton player Prakash Padukone). He is very good at his game, but beyond that he's a very shy person," she said.

"I believe in being myself. If I am at a party and I am comfortable sitting in a corner, I will do just that. I don't believe in doing things that people expect me to do. I talk and interact a lot lesser than a lot of people out there. So, I do come across to some as being snobbish, but that's just the way I am," the actress asserted.

There have been many link-ups and speculations of her love life before she came out in the open about Ranbir Kapoor.

"These kinds of loose talk (sic) used to affect me initially. After a point I realised that I am upsetting myself by reacting to such things. Some things might be true and some are not. As long as I call my parents and tell them what exactly is happening in my life, it doesn't really matter what the world thinks of me. Yes, at the end of the day, I am a human being and it does hurt but I can't afford to let these things affect me. I am still the same person, who gets up in the morning and goes about doing her work. I hope the audience is smart enough to understand that it is humanely impossible for me to be linked to so many people at one point of time. I just hope that people respect the fact that I come from a decent conservative family with great upbringing. When I fell in love I spoke about it. Being in love is the most beautiful thing, why would I hide it?" she asked.

Professionally it's been 'rocking' for her too. She has swept away most of the debut awards.

"This year has been the most wonderful for me. 2007 was great too. For someone like me, who's not part of the industry, it's a great feeling to be accepted so well. I think most of the credit goes to Farah (Khan) who picked me from nowhere and gave me a great launch. I had met a few directors before who were hesitant to cast me. In fact, even after Farah launched me, a lot of people asked her if she was sure she was doing the right thing. The very fact that she trusted me enough to go against so many people, is something I am totally indebted for. I am glad that the industry has accepted me and supported me."

But she won't let any of this go to her head because of the kind of "upbringing" she's had. She says, "My parents have always told me, that this fame is temporary. Today you have it, tomorrow it might just go away. Just enjoy your work and everything else will follow."

Ask her and she will say that acting is not a cakewalk for the Bollywood actresses.

"In people's mind being an actress is effortless. People think that if you are good looking, and if you have a good body and slight talent, you can make it. But it's not that easy. It's a lot of hard work. There is a lot of physical and emotional energy that goes into being an actor," she signed off.

Of course anyone would be hurt. More hurtful when some immature people create fake videos of her and spread the news like she has serious disease and that she is married with kids etc.
At the end....all this envious negative propoganda crumbles and people just have to accept the reality. How long can they elude it? Even so few creepy-crawlies can just be smashed😛 .
With success comes criticism and she should be strong enough to take it. You can't win them all.

i just hope she learns to deal with these negative propaganda against her and handles everything like how Ash has handled every single criticism with dignity and class.. I am sure Deepika won't disappoint me. 😛

A confused member from here who is banned now but happily doing her work on a site dedicated to hate Deepika. It is hilarious because all that hatred just makes them sad people and doesn't affect the ones whom they target😛. They lose their sleep over something on which they have no control. Hope they can leave all that hatred and take care of their health. tsk...tsk

Anyways coming back to the topic, beautiful interview coming from a smart and intelligent woman. 👏

That's a sensible thought and true too.

Well, that sucks. Who have time to do things like that. And it's funny that people focus on who they hate even more. 😆😆
Such a waste of time and energy.
I think I know who u are referring to. Another member told me, I wonder if she's the one. The one whose initial complies with yours 😉.
