Bhagwad Geeta is the true essence or, the very 'saar' of Mahabharata.

Personally I don't think 2 and a 1/2 episodes are enough to complete understanding it. Maybe the actors got a better perspective since they had to go in depth before portraying it.

I would love to discuss it in greater detail over here! ❤️

^ I haven't read the Geeta in so much detail to have an opinion about this in terms of it yet so let me try to tackle this with my opinion only. 😳

Purush and Prakriti are, quite simply put, the masculine and feminine aspects of energy/power.

Prakriti nourishes and protects, while Purusha destroys and punishes. They may also, depending on the situation reverse their roles like- a father caring for and a mother fighting for the child.

However for any being to live and flourish, there ought to be a balance of the two powers- as demonstrated by the Ardhanareeswara forms of various divine couples.

Purush and Prakriti are equally indispensable for live to thrive. They are both all-pervading but for the sake of our perceiving their power, they manifest in the form of the two different aspects of life.

Also, another meaning of Prakriti is nature (both the nature nature and the behavioral pattern of a person). If we consider Purush to be symbolic of the humankind, then we can also interpret it as Purush is the manifestation of energy in a person and Prakriti is the one who dictates how this energy may be used.

Also I remember a lyric from RS' Shri Krishna that I find to be a very apt description of Purush and Prakriti:

Ek Shakthi Ek Shakthi-may,

Dono Sarva-samartha!

Question about Karma Yoga:

It is said that we should do work without thinking of the results in the most famous sloka "Karmanyevadhikarasthe". However, we do need to plan ahead in life, don't we?

Eg, hypothetically, if I want to study in one of the top universities. Then I can't just work hard for cracking the exams. If I don't assume about the results being good and hence send in the application, then I can't very well get in, can I ? I do need to plan ahead. Isn't that violation of the above sloka?

Another general thought :

this is about the idea that welfare of the society/community is the basic goal in Indian philosophy. The same is mentioned in Geeta.

Western philosophy is completely contradictory. Individualism is the priority there.

Fascinating to think about.
