All of us know about the game of dice which was jointly planned by duryodhan and shakuni  because the former was jealous of pandavas prosperity. But another reason that duryodhan mention apart from his jealousy is what happened with shishupal. Duryodhan in his conversation with shakuni clearly mention that he thinks that what happened with shishupal was unfair .

Citation- https://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m02/m02046.htm

Moreover when krishna comes to meet the pandavas in exile he expresses his regret of not being their for them and tells  how he would have stopped the game of dice by his words or by force had he been there

https://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m03/m03013.htm

And the reason for krishna not being their was war salwa who has attacked dwarka to avenge shishupal s death -. Getting the connection ??

https://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m03/m03014.htm

Shishupal s death not only duryodhan mentions it as one of the reason if his unrest against the pandavas but even salwa s reason for war against the dwaraka. And pandavas were obviously unaware of it and also since they were hastinapur unable to provide military support to krishna

So i think that dice game and war with salwa was well made and excuted plan by duryodhan and salwa to divide pandavas and krishna and then attack

Might've been possible. Do we have any citation about Dury and Jarasandh's relationship? Jarasandh was an enemy of Hastinapur also na?

That might throw some light onto if this conspiracy happened or not. 😳

Nah but the above citation does indicates a conspiracy theory.

Duryodhana joined Jarasandha in his attacks on Mathura. It's in Harivamsa Purana.

Salva was not just Duryodhana's ally.

He had 2 peeves against Krishna and Pandavas.

1. Khandava dahana was designed to drive the Nagas from the forest to Salva's land. Krishna and Arjuna started the fire from the remainder of the sides.

2. Salva was Kamsa's half brother as Ugrasena was not his biological father.

Duryodhan, for all his faults, wasn't an ally of any of Krishna's enemies.

In the Kurukshetra war, he rebuffed Rukmi's offer to join him, while he accepted the rulers of Avantika - Vinda and Anuvinda.  Those were the only ones who had evaded the destruction of all of Krishna's other enemies - Jarasandha, Narakasura, Sishupala, Shalva, Dantavakra, Vidyurath, Paundrak, Kashiraj,...  In the end, those 2 were slain by Satyaki.

In fact, during the 12 year exile, Jambavati's son Samba abducted Duryodhan's daughter Lakshmanaa from her swayamvar, and that made the Kauravas too matrimonial allies of Krishna.  Which is why Krishna felt obligated to split his support b/w Arjun (married to Subhadra) and Duryodhan (whose daughter was Krishna's bahu).  On the pecking order, Arjun could have trumped Dury, since it was Krishna having to pick b/w his sister's sasural vs his bahu's mayka

Shalva's kingdom was, from what I read, in Kutch - somewhere b/w Ugrasena's and Jayadrath's kingdoms.  Arjun cleared up what's now Delhi.  How would the Nagas flee to Shalva's kingdom?

Also, if Dury was an ally of Jarasandha, why would he be a favorite of Balarama?  The latter would have happily killed him during one of the wars.  Really speaking, at the time of the Mathura-Magadha wars, Duryodhan was a pupil in Drona's gurukul, and nowhere near ready for war.

Quoting from Prof Bandhopadhyay's article and providing link to map to back it up.

The geographical location of Khandavaprashtha had its natural advantages. Dhrisadvati River formed its Northern and North-western boundary; Yamuna River formed its North-eastern, Eastern and South-eastern boundary. The Khandava forest formed its Southern boundary. But Khandavaprashtha was also surrounded by hostile kingdoms on all sides. To the North beyond Dhrisadvati river was Trigarta kingdom. To the West was Shalva; to the South Khandavaranya; and to the North-east and East on the other side of Yamuna was Hastinapur.

The following link is for description of siege of Mathura by Jarasandha

Hastinapuri waa still subject to emperor's commands. Likely to be more vassals acting under his orders than true ally but Duryodhana's name is mentioned as are the names of many others.

I don't always agree with the professor's analysis, but if you ignore the personal bits in this article and focus on the geography and politics, it's fairly accurate summation.

Effect of too much time on my hands one day ðŸ˜†, I actually looked up summer winds in northern india to see if I could poke holes in the theory. But it held.
