Kal yavana, king of Yavanas. Yavana is the ancient word for Greek.

Please look up Megasthenes' Herakles who was a god worshipped by his tribe, Surasenoi. Strong suggestion this was Krishna of Surasena clan.

Can't post citations from my phone.

Vishnu seal of Bactrian origin dating to BCE period as well coins with Krishna figure have been found outside India.

Krishna of Surasena clan as in a similar figure from. Greece or a mention of Krishna in their culture?

Herodotus in his visit to India specifically states Herakles is Krishna. The Heliodorus pillar is a must see for any MBh reader.

Yavan basically means anyone who came from distant west (you might include Europe or Latin America) since Greeks were the first ones we encountered in known history hence later the word became synonymous with Greeks

But then my point is something opposite. I know Indian texts and Mahabharata have references to many foreign cultures I am asking about references of Indian texts or happenings in foreign culture.

If for example I am writing a story I might very say that the king of Brunei came and fought with my protagonist that reference doesn't make my story true. Instead if Brunei has some references about the events in my story that would add to the authenticity of it

Have read Megesthenese citations by Arian so knew about Herakles, but didn't know about Heliodorus pillars. Will check about those

All Indian kingdoms mentioning might be an exaggeration. Mainly, Kurus, Panchals, Magadh, tha Yadavas and other many small tribes (I may be missing out some.) I don't think Indian kingdoms together constituted something that huge tbh.

Also, Afghan history or Pakistani history doesn't mention much about their history as a part of INDIA for obvious reasons I think. They in fact are reluctant to admit Indus Valley to be an Indian civilization. 😆

There have been so many brutal and ravaging tribal wars in Europe and Middle east (west Asia). You know, the vikings, saxons, celts, angles, etc. How much have me mentioned them in our texts?! How much have Indian writers talked about the tribal wars in Arabia?

In fact, we were not aware of our own history of the Indus valley civilization, Mauryas, Guptas, etc., until the British archaeologists began to dig the earth.

The invaders always try to destroy the native culture because if we are not aware of our own inheritance then we would be in an identity crisis and to give ourselves some identity we would accept theirs. That's what happened in Greece when the scholars ran to Italy in a bid to save whatever texts they could take away with them. The rest were burnt. The Nalanda and Vikramshila universities in India were also destroyed. There is so much that we don't know yet.

Afghanistan is ravaged by the extremists. Pak? why are we even mentioning it? We all know the truth😆

Hercules is supposed to be Balram.

India did have connections with ancient Greece as evidenced by Kal-Yavana or black Greek, Krishna's cousin who was the son of a rishi and an apsara (I take it to mean white woman).

I believe CHinese mythology also has some references but will need to post citations.

Ancient Egypt doesn't feature in MBh or Vedic litt, but blue lotus, which was likely the perfume Panchali used, was Egyptian in origin.

@bold - it is also mentioned in the old NCERT on Ancient India (Class 11 or 12). He adopted the Indian religion and became a Vishnu devotee.

Afghan history is hardly available on the internet. I am still trying to find out some link to see a mention of a great war where Gandhar (back then Afghanistan was Gandhar) took part. Let's see. 😆

You'll hardly find anything but you can try. Afghanistan has been ruled by the extremists and religious fanatics for the most part of the medieval history. The brutality is not new. It has been really brutal for the country.
