Also an assurance in PM’s speech that essential buying (like milk, medicine) will not be prohibited would stop people from panic buying and hoarding.

As usual, intention is good but implementation could have been better.

Too late to not do what they did!

It was a good call.. traveling at a time when we were just inches away from stage3 would have meant people spreading it in their hometowns and in remote areas. After that it would hv been difficult to tame.

I got wfh late and i felt it was too late for me to use any means of inter-state public transport and also considering I will be going to elderly. So It was a risk that I didn't take.

Even when I don't know cooking here I am making it somehow.

but that was the intention..........to stop people from moving.....so that anybody infected with virus, will stay where he is and probably spread the infection to lesser people......

imagine a infected person staying where he is with 10 people........as opposed to going to in his hometown, with a packed train of 1000 + people........

and this situation is messy, unfortunately, but at least as of now, we are better then China and Italy..... people are at least alive and healthy, without infection..........baaki sab problems se adjust kar sakte hai indians, they have the spirit........ but agar infection spirals up, then our health system will collapse and then the mess will be beyond this......

look at Italy, just today I heard that the Italian PM has given up, that he is saying that they have no solution and cannot cope with the on-slaught of patients......... that their health system is beyond broken............ we cannot even imagine a situation like that in India.........

In that case, government should have had plans to distribute basic food (like bread/roti) to every door. During floods, food packets are thrown from helicopters. Right now, infrastructure is fine. It could have planned with organisations which provide mid day meals to schools (like Akshay Patra) for such an arrangement before lock down announcement.

Government has to think about the repercussions and solutions, whenever they try to change the system.

People who are questioning the decision of immediate shut down have no idea do they now ??

The only reason India is not Italy right now is because of this one single decision of immediate lock down and emphasis on social distancing. There's absolutely no time or scope of losing any time that would have taken in arranging things smoothly. If the GOVT. had waited and India fallen into the jaws of this pandemic, the number of people dead would've been half of our population, which means 70 cr. ( And half is a hopeful number. ) We dont have the personal hygiene habits , education, infrastructure, equipments or economics of France , Italy or China . And we all know what is the condition of these countries. Our country would've been little better than a crematorium or grave yard at this point.

What is that compared to legitimate harassment and inconvenience or even dire state of a few thousands??

Really , get educated, people. Please do. My father , my sister and I are continuing our services to the hospital at great risk to our lives while educated idiots are giving off free ke advices against contingency measures or nit picking on it ,safely from the confines of their homes. The level of ingratitude, irresponsibility and idiocy just stuns me ! Corona is indeed showing us the true faces of many.

I don’t like to discuss my/my family’s personal/professional details or the stress we are under because of this disease.

But trust me, when some one criticises the way government has handled the situation (or nitpicking according to you), they don’t have to be irresponsible idiots.

aur distribute karne door to door jaye kaun ? jo jayenge unko bhi toh danger hai hi naa.....

when will we understand that this is not a known issue like political band or flood or earth quake..... this enemy is invisible........you will not even know what hit you........

have you seen that video which tells about south korean patient number 31 ?

she traveled from China to S.Korea.......absolutely fine.........on 6th Feb, she was in a minor accident......went herself to the hospital, no major injury.......just slight temperature......they offered her to get admitted........she said she was feeling fine, left the hospital......attended the sunday church mass on 9th and 16th feb......then went to a buffet lunch in a hotel....... later the symptoms started showing....... apparently, that one patient infect 50% of the s.korean patients.........out of 8400 patients, 5000 were infected cause of her.........in the sunday mass, she infected 1200 patients.....

now imagine, what can anyone do, in such situation........ yes, food is important....transport is important..........but at least the unnecessary crowd on the road needs to be dissipated first..... that was the highest priority............other wise, we have all seen how idiotic indians were who were not staying inside and going for holidays and all......and just roaming around cause there is less traffic on road.........

There is no point in detailing the nitty gritty, how it could have been done. If government had plans, there were ways. Even in the lockdown period, essential services like healthcare and police run. Food packets can be placed in front of the doors in an empty street. But whether government had plans for it is another question. (Also, it will rather be the task for local/state governments. So centre needs to involve state governments too).

I am aware of patient 31in S Korea. I totally agree with people have been irresponsible in carelessly roaming around. In this thread, people have shown the video of police handling. I have also seen people attacking police for forcing people to stay at home and not ride on road. (But that will take a different dimension. So, not going for it).

All I spoke about was about some poor people living in slums who could be deprived of their food and how to take care of them.

I am sure all here taking offence to valid criticism of govt and highlighting plight of poor migrant labours on the road have their pantries and fridge full of stuff and sitting comfortably in their houses along with their families , using hand wash/sanitizers every time they take an online delivery, are financially strong or working from home or getting paid anyways ....how would they understand plight of someone who would want to reunite with their family back home when they are not earning anything living in diff city, who have to take the tough decision of walking 100s of kilometers because they are not getting any transport and after that suffering police brutalities ......for them decision is very easy and they are ready to take the chance to reach their loved ones or die alone hungry or get the virus by being cramped in shelters where thousands are already there.

To all the people saying lockdown is sudden..it is actually gradual. Many places..many districts in different states were in a lockdown already..as for me..it's more than 10 days already.

States were having meetings with the centre already. Few already wrote to the centre to have a complete lockdown. And at this time I would really appreciate Mamta for this. So they already saw it coming.

As for giving 3-4 days...u realise how much more it could've spread? Even with a lockdown there r more than 100 new cases today.

wait.......are you talking about planning way ahead in time........... if yes, then there i agree, that we couldve done much more............the best and first step being screening all passengers coming from abroad and forcing them for home quarantine, wouldve been the best step..... but maybe then the government wouldve been accused of killing democracy....but anyways, lets not get there...

as of now, after constantly telling people to stop unwanted travel, to work from home (this is for us upper middle class who can afford to do it), after telling companies to close down ......when people refused to listen and keep traveling........people planning to go on a vacation.......planning to travel to their native place.........this was the next step......

Hopefully food will be provided for the daily wages worker, through state government...... Kejriwal is providing it, i hope all other CM's follow suit......
