Part 26

Neil was trying to adjust himself on sofa. He was tossing and turning but couldn’t find comfortable position to sleep. And to add to his discomfort there were mosquitoes biting him every now and then. Finally giving up he stood up started pacing here and there. He couldn’t believe Mini could throw him out of the room just because he didn’t sign some stupid papers. She was not talking to him since then. They had their dinner silently with Mini shooting daggers at him whenever their eyes met. Even Arya found out that they had a fight by the way Mini was behaving with him. Little kid so cutely tried to make them friends again but Mini was adamant to fight with him. She had not allowed him to enter the room even to take a blanket and pillow. “How could she do that to him and why just because he cared for her?” thought Neil. He was about to lie down again when he saw Arya coming out of her room with her teddy bear. “Neil, what are you doing here. Is Veer Balika still angry with you?” asked Arya. “Forget about me, what are you doing here little darling? Its late night you should go and sleep in your room.” Answered Neil as he bent down on his knees to her level. “What about you? Where will you sleep? Did Veer Balika gave you punishment to sleep on sofa” asked Arya again while yawning. “Yes your Veer Balika is punishing me without any fault. But you don’t worry about me, I will adjust on sofa. I would have gone to guest room but there is no pillow or blanket there.” Explained Neil. “Then you come with me, in my room. Till Veer Balika and you become friends again you can sleep with me and my teddy bear.”Arya offered to help him. “Arya don’t worry about me, you go to sleep. You have your school tomorrow right?” Neil said and picking her in his arms he went to her room and placed her on the bed. He tucked her inside the blanket. He was about to leave the room when Arya held his hand, “Neil, are you afraid of Veer Balika? That she will scold you if she found out that you were not sleeping on sofa as per her punishment?” Arya again asked innocently. Neil gasped at her then defended himself, “I am not afraid of your Veer Balika” “Then you can sleep here.” Said Arya as she shifted to make space for him. “Ya, that’s what I am going to do because I am not afraid of anyone.” Said Neil as he lied down on bed.

In the morning Mini woke up. She was having a headache. She couldn’t sleep whole night. Their fight from last night kept playing in her mind and she kept tossing and turning on bed. She missed Neil terribly last night. She couldn’t believe it was her room, her bed since forever but after their marriage she was so habituated to hold him during her sleep that it felt something incomplete when he was not there last night. “Just because of his stubbornness. Why he had to prove his superiority? Why he couldn’t sign the undertaking?” thought Mini angrily. She went downstairs to see if Neil also had sleepless night on sofa. She wished even he should also have a throbbing headache. She didn’t find him on the sofa. She checked every room and at the last went to Arya’s room. Mini entered the room and found Neil sprawled diagonally on Arya’s bed as the bed was small for his height and Arya literally lying on top of his chest hugging him like a baby. For once she forgot how angry she was and looked at both of them. How cute they both looked sleeping like that. They were her whole world. Arya, her sweet little innocent baby sister and Neil, without whom her life is incomplete. The man she loves more than her life. But suddenly she came out her trance, “No, I don’t love this man. I hate him. Stupid, idiot, arrogant man.”She thought. Here she couldn’t sleep whole night and look at him sleeping so peacefully without any care in this world. She fumed in anger and screamed at them making them startled, “Get up both of you, Chhutanki you are late for the school and tell this man also to get ready for the restaurant.”

Arya quickly got up and went to the bathroom as she didn’t want to face Veer Balika’s wrath. Mini was about to go when Neil held her hand, “Mini, stop it now. You were angry with me and for that you threw me out of our room now please don’t drag it anymore.” Said Neil as he stood up. “Will you sign the papers?” Mini asked directly. “Huh…what…No way.” Said Neil her words sunk in his sleepy head. “Then you are not allowed in our room” said Mini being straight forward. “That’s a blackmail” Neil accused Mini. “Whatever, no sign no entry in room.” Mini shrugged and went out to get ready herself. Whole day Neil tried to persuade her into forgetting the fight. He gave her roses, made her favourite cake even tried to seduce her but all went in vain. Again that day he had to sleep in Arya’s room.

When he noticed she was still upset next day he finally confronted her, “Why are you so hell bent to go that tour. Its not safe for you. I care for you. Why don’t you understand? Said Neil as he cupped her face. Mini looked at him. She saw worry in his eyes. She knew he genuinely cared for her without any doubt but their argument from that night was not letting her ego to accept defeat. Unconsciously in her mind this whole fight had turned from ‘lack of safety or not’ to ‘who’s the boss in their relationship’ and that night she experienced that she was losing big time. With their marriage, virginity was not the only thing she lost to him. She lost many more things and her identity was one among them. Neil calling her with her married name in a challenging tone was a rude reminder to that. So no matter how unimportant and baseless this argument was but she wanted to win it by hook or by crook.

“You don’t care for me. Had you, than you would have signed the papers.” Said mini, avoiding the eye contact. “You know this is not right. You are saying this in anger” replied Neil. “This is 100% right. You know what…I was happy with restaurant but no you had to show how great you are so you encouraged me to pursue photography and when I actually wanted to do something you are afraid of my freedom so you like any other chauvinist husband denied your wife the right to take her own decision” Mini said angrily. “Oh so this is your problem. You feel I am denying your freedom…..really….you think like that about me?” asked Neil hurt by her words. “Yes, you are one chauvinist person who like to boss around his wife” Mini accused him yet again. “I really like to believe that you are saying this in anger…..but…if this is the case….then…then there is no point of discussing anything with you. If from our fight you only picked up this point and could not see my love and care…..then…I don’t want to say anything further.” Neil waited for her answer but when she stayed quite he left the room feeling deeply hurt by her allegations. The moment he left the room, Mini let her tears flow freely which she was controlling till now. She knew this was not the right way to handle this matter but before she could have stop herself words have escaped her mouth and it was too late.

Now Neil was also angry from Mini. Both of them separately went to the restaurant and didn’t interact there also. Naeem bi noticed them and asked Neil about it,“What happened did you two fight?” Neil just nodded in yes. “Why? What happened?” Naeem bi asked further. “As much as I would like to share it with you and have your wise advice but its not right on my part. Previously it was different. Mini was my girlfriend but now we are married. Somethings are just meant to remain between husband and wife. This is such an issue which only we will have to figure out together.” Replied Neil not telling Naeem bi anything.“Allah mare, sab theek toh hai…teri baton se toh mujhe dar lag raha hai…..koi badi baat hai kya….aisa bhi kya ho gaya?” asked Naeem bi unable to stop herself from probing further. “Aisi koi badi baat nahi hai Naeem bi…baat toh bahut chhoti si hai…par uska asar itna gehra hoga ye socha nahi tha….But you don’t worry we’ll sort it out.” Replied Neil and left the place before Naeem bi could ask anymore questions.

That day and few more days passed by just like that with Mini and Neil not taking to each other and sleeping in different rooms. Both of them knew that they let this small argument go far away than intended but neither was willing to make a first move. Mini was angry and Neil was hurt. They were together but missing each other terribly. The environment of their house was always tensed. Arya was having hard time in communicating everything with them separately. First she had to say everything to Mini and had to repeat it with Neil. She tried her best to end their fight with her little innocent ideas but they didn’t budge.

Mini was sitting in her cabin all lost seeing one of her wedding photos which was kept on her table. They both were smiling at each other in the photograph. Mini took that photo and caressed it. She was missing him so much. She was not having sound sleep since their fight. The night was too dark, the room was too empty and bed was too cold without him. She couldn’t stop herself and a lone tear escaped from her eye. Just then Neil came there for some important work and saw her crying silently. He finally gave up and forgot about his ego and hurt. He couldn’t see her crying. He went to make first move by starting communication, “This tour is not worth your tears” he said. Mini suddenly looked at him shocked and quickly wiped her tears. “I googled about the tour and also checked their website. They didn’t even have the necessary government permissions for trekking and other activities. And they also have very poor ratings on other traveling sites and blogs. Trust me its not good enough. I never said no to you I just have doubt on the safety measure of this tour. You took it in a wrong way.” Neil explained further. “Forget about it. All seats are already booked. I am not going anywhere.” Replied Mini still feeling upset.“This is not the end of the world. That convention is only next month. You still have enough time and there are many more tour and many more places to visits I am sure you’ll figure out something.” Neil tried to convince her while feeling relieved that she is not going to that tour.

“I said I don’t want to go anywhere.” Said Mini with hands folded in front her chest. “Stop being so stubborn. Why don’t you understand? I was worried for you that’s why I refused to signed those papers. I don’t know in what way you took it but it had nothing to do with chauvinism. We are married to each other. We are equals. Neither I am superior to you nor you are. Stop making a mountain out of a mole hill.”Neil said frustrated from her tantrums. “This …..this behavior of your….this authoritative tone that you take with me ….I was talking about this only. The way you give me orders. You are saying that we are equals but that day and now you always try to boss me.” Complaint Mini like a child. “This is not an authoritative tone……this is the way how a worried husband talks while trying to make some sense to his stubborn wife” said Neil as he held her by her shoulders. “Please love, stop fighting. I am tired now. I miss you. I don’t think I did anything wrong but if it makes you happy then ok, I accept my mistake. I am sorry for that day.” Neil said further as he came closer and rested his forehead on hers. Mini closed her eyes to savor the feeling. They were this close after so many days. His breath, the warmth of his body, his familiar scent …..she missed it dearly. Her body was suddenly awake from all places. She unknowingly leaned more on to him. Neil felt her coming close to him. He cupped her face and leaned down to kiss her when they were disturbed by a knock on the door. Mini distanced herself from him with difficulty and asked the person who was at the door to come in. Khursheed miya came in to inform Neil the spices he ordered has come and he should check them personally. Neil dismissed him saying that is coming in a minute. He then turned to Mini to say something but she stopped him, “Neil, please leave me alone for some time.” Neil wanted to stay but decided to give her some space right now.

Mini left for home early. She needed some time to think. Restaurant closed late that day but Neil remembered Mini’s words that she wanted some alone time. He decided not to go home. He also needed sometime to think what went wrong. Did he really tried to be authoritative in their relationship. What was troubling Mini so much? He then realized it was late night and he didn’t have any place to go. So he just decided to wander around on his bike. Mini was at home waiting for Neil. She looked at the clock it was already 1.00 am. She was really worried now. Since she returned home in the evening she was thinking about their fight. She remembered how he said sorry to her. She knew that she was dragging the matter more than required but that day was a shock to her system. She couldn’t bring herself to let it go and think it in a more mature way. But like Neil she was also tired of fighting and wanted to talk it out like mature adults…the way it should have been in the first place. She was waiting for Neil to return since then but he was late. She called Khursheed miya to ask about his whereabouts. He informed that they closed the restaurant at 11.00pm and he saw Neil was going on his bike like he does regularly. He didn’t even say he was going somewhere else. She tried his mobile but it was switched off. This got Mini worried. “Where is Neil. Why he hasn’t come home yet? Is he safe?.....Oh God, please let him be safe. I am such a bad wife. I hurt him that’s why he is not coming home……did he met with an accident….No…no..please God let him be safe. Was he hurt? Did someone attacked him…its too late its not safe to be out this time….what am I thinking….please God, protect him wherever he is.” Mini kept thinking while silently praying God for his safety.

Finally around 2.00 am her prayers were answered as Neil came home. She looked at the door. Her eyes scanned him quickly to assure if he was safe and sound. She then ran to him and hugged him while crying her heart out. “Where were you Neil? What took you so long? You know how worried I was? I thought…thought something bad happened to you.” She said between her sobs. “Relax Mini, calm down I am fine.” Neil assured her while hugging her. “Then what took you so long and why your phone was switched off?” asked Mini still crying in his arms. “My phone discharged and you said that you wanted to be alone for sometime so thought of giving you some time I just went to wander off on my bike but then my bike broke down and I had to find garage. That’s why I am late.” Neil explained.“Stupid, aise koi jaata hai kya…..mujhe kitni fikar ho rahi thi pata hai….I was so scared and worried for your safety.” Said Mini as she parted herself from him. Neil kept looking at her but didn’t say anything. Mini was frustrated by his silence. She held his collar and asked again, “Why are you silent? Say something. You should have atleast informed me .How could be you so careless?Are you even understanding what I am saying?” “Yes I totally understand your fear and worries. It’s the same I felt when you were asking me to sign those papers.” Neil said as he held her hands in his. Mini gasped as the realization struck her. What she was taking as his bossy behavior was actually his worries and fears for her.

Mini threw herself in his arms as she kissed him on his lips. “I am sorry…..so sorry I didn’t understand you and took it in wrong way.” Said Mini and again took his lips in her. “I am sorry too….I should not have just announced my decision like that and made you understand with reasoning.” Said Neil as he kissed her back. He looked in her eyes and found same yearning in them as his own eyes. “I need you” said Neil looking at those soulful brown tear filled eyes. Mini nodded at his words understanding his need. Neil kissed her yet again and without breaking the kiss lifted her like a child while she wrapped her both legs around his waist. They kept kissing till they reached their bedroom. Neil placed her on the bed and she impatiently tired to remove his clothes. One of his shirt’s buttons was taking too much time to open up. She jerked it with frustration tearing his shirt open, “I missed you” said Neil as he felt her kissing on his chest. “I missed you too. I missed hugging you, kissing you, sleeping next to you. Don’t ever fight with me again” said Mini as she pushed him on the bed after discarding her clothes. Both of them made passionate love pouring out all their frustration, fears, worries, love into it.

Both of them lying on their bed satiated after wild love making sessions. Mini was lying on her stomach facing the other direction while Neil was hugging her from behind and resting his head on her shoulder. “You know whats the best out come of a fight.” Asked Mini. “We get to understand each other better” said Neil guessing the answer. “No that is secondary the best is the make- up sex” said Mini as she smiled turning towards him. Neil chuckled at her. “Next time you decide to get all wild with me inform me in advance I will remove my clothes myself . That was my favourite shirt you tore.” Said Neil teasing her. She blushed remembering how wild and impatient she was. Neil balanced himself on one of his elbow and asked while caressing her hair, “Tell me honestly love, you want to keep your maiden name” Mini looked at him but didn’t say anything. She averted her eyes from him. “Please talk to me. I know that day when I called you as Mini Neil Oberoi something changed in your eyes. I could sense it but couldn’t put my finger on it then as I was not in right set of mind.” Mini looked at him again in admiration. How can he tell everytime what is going in her mind. “From the starting I didn’t want to change my maiden name. But on the day on our marriage when registrar congratulated us addressing us as Mr. and Mrs. Oberoi, I went straight to the cloud nine. My name with your name…it sounded so beautiful that I didn’t mind getting called as Mini Neil Oberoi. But that day when that tour operator asked me to get my husband’s sign….It was a shock to my system….I felt as if I am lost….my identity is gone and merged into yours. I always took my decision independently not even allowed my babes to interfere. That day when I realized that I have to take your permission and when you said no I didn’t bother to see the reason behind it but jumped to the conclusion that you are dominating me in this relationship.” Said Mini finally taking it all out.

“Its ok love, it happens sometimes. I can understand. Even I had thought that you would like to keep your name even after marriage. I sometimes call you Mini Neil Oberoi just as lovingly it doesnt have any other meaning to it.” Neil assured her. “I didn’t say anything because I really loved the sound of it. But after that day I have decided to keep my maiden name. I hope you wont mind.” Asked Mini as she looked in his eyes for answer. “Don’t be stupid, a name cant change my love for you.Whether you take my name or not you are stuck with Neil Oberoi for rest of your life and sometimes you might feel I am being strict with you but believe me it will be always because I love you so much and care for so so much. it doesnt even remotely related to superiority or anything like that.” Said Neil as he kissed her forehead. "Yes now I understand. I wont doubt your intentions again." said Mini as she smiled and turned on her side facing him

“Finally when everything is out and clear lets celebrate, how about another round? She asked as she traced her finger on his chest. “Give me a break woman, you already had your way with me two times. I need rest I am not a machine.” Said Neil pushing her away. “Stop being dramatic, you have had enough rest since our fight.” Said Mini as she again pulled him towards her. “You know, I sometimes feel that you married me just for sex. I feel used.” Said Neil feigning shock and hurt. Mini laughed out at his words. “Yes you are right I just wanted to use you. Not just for sex but as a free driver free cook free servant also” Neil gasped with shock listening to her words. “You consider me as your driver, cook and servant?” he asked. “Yes, is there anything more you can do? Mini teased again. “Just wait I will show you what more I can do” said Neil in challenging tone as he came on top of her. Mini giggled feeling ticklish. “You have your way with me now its my turn” said Neil "Oh so now you are not tired" Mini asked him giggling again but soon her giggles turned into moans as he indulged her again into passionate union.
