All they wanted was to take the burden of bondita off their head and as an added advantage they were getting dowry in return so they can give their daughter in a well to do family(note here is sampurna's in laws also were demanding). They are selfish and inhumane at the same time.

Well Cvs has done everything for drama purpose otherwise people mindset of that era is like that widow's condition are actually bad at that time which is changes according to time now coming to the story bondita's mama actually loves his sister that's why they allowed her to live with them . Coming to bonita she is just 8 years who lost her father such girls are actually consider as bad omen getting married to them is actually a tough task to arranging her marriage with old man is not wrong as such marriage was very much in practice but unfortunately Cvs never addressed these issues and make them negative as for sati thing they already cleared the situations.
