In all seriousness, star power is important but genre and type of movie also matters a lot. It also matters how popular the music is. There are various factors.

If only star power mattered, why does Hrithik get an 11 crore opening for Super 30 and Hrithik and Tiger get 50 crores for War?

Why does Aamir get 4 crores for Secret Superstar but 50 crores for Thugs with Amitabh?

Masala type movies with popular music and fun and entertainment will always open much better than more unusual subjects.

Now maybe some fans will get humbled and stop making fun of other stars now that DP faced the same thing.

Deepika's role was beyond unglamorous (I can count Deepika in Lagangey Parindey, Alia in Udta Punjab, Super 30’s Hrithik as unglamorous).

Why exactly should viewers spend money for? To watch Deepika? This movie is not the one. Her acting ? Average. Inspiring story? We can hear Lakshmi’s talk. Looks are Deepika's USP. That was missing in the movie.

This movie would not have done well even without clash, even without JNU controversy.

Even though Nirja had a sad ending, she saved many lives and it looked inspirational. Chapaak which shows another woman getting attacked at the end made sure, film is depressing from beginning to end. Also Sonam looked cute in Nirja. Deepika was not.

I think Panga will do well because it looks entertaining. If the movie is fun, men/womencentric label will not matter. I think Panga will go in Queen's way.

Not a mistake but an excuse .
