It's a mistake to release a woman-centric film along with a biggie

I read lots of conversations on the Tanhaji vs. Chapaak release where people were like they have the budget for only 1 movie and they would prefer to watch Tanhaji.

I fear the same for Panga vs. Street Dancer.

Women-centric films are anyways risky in this male-dominated industry. By clashing with a masala entertainer which caters to the lowest common denominator, it's risking it further. No matter what people say about catering to different genres, truth is cinema-going audience is going to choose one out of the two films and that's usually the one with more masala ingredients.

Chapaak and Panga are both content-driven films, and not big on the masala factor. A woman-centric film needs more visibility and exposure.

I also think it's a mistake to clash 2 women-centric films e..g. Parineeti's The Girl on the train vs. Vidya Balan's Shakuntala biopic. This will eat up the business of both films.

I wish people would take more calculated risks, considering how male-dominated the industry is and how even girls don't end up supporting actresses all that much ( most of the hate DP received on this forum is from girls only).

Maybe I am being too idealistic?

Male dominant industry ka kya lena dena?? Film ko sirf audience hit kar sakti hai. Agar unko nahi dekhni film to bhala aur koi kya karega

And dilwale me jyada masala tha phir bhi bm badi hit sabit hui thi.

I agree with you, but I think it's more complex than that.

I think first of all we should let go of this classification..a film should be promoted as a film, a story ..not male or female centric..and should be promoted by its leads. Even in what we call men centric movies we see the heroines always promoting them..no matter whats the size of their role..

Coz the minute u classify a movie as a kid centric, female or male centric it becomes niche..a certain section makes up a mind not to watch it. Like teens and youth won't watch a kiddie movie so its restricted to families ( mostly one parent n kids😆)

men may not prefer to watch a woman centric story thinking it may be full of emotions or melodrama..that is unless their wife or gf drags them..

Women who prefer emotional drama won't watch n adrenaline filled men centric action movie..

It's all about the right promotions to show that this movie is for all unless u r looking for a limited release

If both movies are well made, both will be successful.

Lagaan and Gadar both were pure historicals

Both had very heavy budgets

Same generation

Released on same day

Both were well made

Both were successful.

Haha ur excuses keep coming up after chapak flopped miserably . Simple movie was not good nor deepika. She has no star power. That is why it flopped. Movies had worked in past even with clash because target audiences were different. N Deepika's target audience didn't show up. Simple. She has no box office pull. She is no kangana to pill such role😃

Panga trailer looks better than Chapaak..even Street dancer..but don't think Majority of young movie going audience would prefer a movie about a mother struggling to get back to her sport compared to a hip movie about dance

Only young people don't watch movies. That's a myth. And did not you say we should not classify movies? It's all about right promotion. Then why such excuse for panga? Biased much? At least stick to your opinion.

I said Panga looks better than Street dancer..and m saying exactly what I said earlier..the trailer classifies into a genre which all won't see..

And I didn't say only young people watch movies..I said 'majority of the young movie going audience'...not majority of the audience..

The young people who watch movies.. majority out of that..
