How talent sustains and stardom fades

Often we take this lightly..don't we?

but this is so true

2 names who have proved it are Tabu and Rani

Starting with Rani..this girl was totally sidelined in start of her career..she was accepting junk which the likes of Aish..Preity were rejecting

Her prime even..had her no where close to Aish..and she was neck to neck with Priety

Cut to present..preity has totally disappeared..her last main release as a lead in an A list movie was 13 years ago in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom..her last hit was 14 years ago in KANK..

Aish who is doing 2 bit roles in flops like Fannay Khan

and Rani..who in her 40s is churning one hit after another without any big male star..Mardani..Hichki..and now Mardani 2..yes resources she has but not many make much out of it..look at kajol for eg..doing flowerpot roles in hubby's production..or churning disasters like helicopter eela

This is just pushing the envelop further on Rani's part..coz trust me there are only a countful actresses who have done this post 40s with acting and BO..rani is doing that

Now Tabu..an actor who was royally snubbed and totally sidelined infront of actors like karisma..Juhi etc..is literally on every critics fav list..emerging no.2 on best actresses list for the decade..and winning numerous awards and praises in various complex performances..no one in 90s would think this would happen and the likes of karisma etc would be totally done and out..

Talent sustains..stardom fades..

when i see these great actors still doing solid work..in mid 40s ..regardless of my like or dislike..i feel that is a huge step ahead for the industry..

The very idea that it's extraordinary for 2 (two) 40+ actresses (who are not even outsiders - and one of them is actually an influential studio boss's wife)) to be getting decent roles just shows how regressive Bollywood still is.

Yes, this is true. Talent does sustain. As you said, rani, tabu have proved this.

The young actresses (20's, early 30's) that make it big always have a peak and they are referred to as superstars of their generation. But as time passes, there are new younger actresses who get the opportunity to be stars and start to get attention. Who becomes stars when they are young is dependent on a combination of PR, opportunities, and media spotlight, beauty. definitely not on the basis of only talent. But..times are changing slightly. still a long way to go!

The industry is unfair. The audience will always choose a younger popular actress than a once a time ago popular actress who once had a peak like say a preity. Is she getting films today, no sadly.

When an actress gets older, only there talent allows them to sustain, nothing else. Whether they were a superstar of their generation doesnt matter, even if they are relatively popular but still talented they will sustain. Because it becomes an equal playing field for older actresses but not when they are young. Barring the likes of Sri devi, their popularity when they were younger becomes irrelevant.

Who’s prime was better ??? Did Aishwarya have a prime ??? Yeah going in David letterman years before srk did. But how many great movies or big hits was Aish even apart of. Rani was in much more imho

Rani was popular but she was not super hyped up as a superstar like some of her contemporaries. Rani relied on her talent and films. Asihwarya was considered more of a "star" b.c of her beauty and popularity. On the basis of stardom and who was deemed to have more of an aura, it was ash back then. But today, Rani is the one giving hits at the BO.

Yes she was giving hits. But Ash was also considered a superstar. So the post is asking about talent sustaining. and she is right that it does because today rani is delivering hits.

I wouldnt say that. But in terms of hits and success with acting, then yes she was inferior to Rani and is still today. But in terms of popularity/stardom thats questionable. B.c stardom in BW is not always about delivering hits unfortunately.

Once Aishwarya comes with a movie then Rani will be heavily criticized. It’s a vicious and fickle cycle.

So not taking this otherwise “sensible” post seriously.
