Talking about Sridevi, she was phenomenal as Shashi. I remember applauding with the audience when it ended, what an extremely nuanced and sensitive portrayal. Not once going OTT like any of her 80s movies. That's a sign of a great actress, moulding oneself with times and Madhuri is just a terrible in that respect. Should stick to dancing at reality shows only

I agree 100% with this. I always felt the same thing watching her. Madhuri never got into the skin of her characters. Madhuri the person always takes over.

Sridevi was also known for her dance but she didn’t get typecast as a dancer, because there are movies that didn’t focus on her dance.

And not just English Vinglih,I don't think Madhuri could've even one a Mom. Despite it being a pretty okay ad not so great film, I still regard this as Sridevi's best performance of her life- yes even better than English Vinglish. Shashi still had a bit of that innocence of Sridevi that we are used to seeing but Shashi was a completely new avatar of Sridevi and something she had hardly attempted much. Once again- nuances and body language:

Or when she secretly manages to sneek out o Charle's bungalow after poisoning his protein shake and that little smile of success and revenge:

Or that scene preceding to aa gayi uski Maa where asks Charles what happened and takes out the apples and knife from her bag

Or when she is almost caught red handed by Akshay Khanna yet she manages to leave him dumbstruck with the spectacles

Or her breakdown seeing her daughter in the hospital, my all time favorite..when she is such a hurry she goes to the other direction by mistake and then is escorted by the nurse

This is what set Sridevi apart from all her contemporaries who tried to make a comeback. She moulded her art into the contemporary style and became those characters, case in point Mom where she as the silent orchestrator of the revenge till the end of the film where she completely loses it. And this is what I find missing in Madhuri. Like many people pointed out, she wasn't able to mould herself to today's style of acting. She is stuck in the 90's style of melodrama and dialoguebaazi evident in EVERY SINGLE film after her comeback till date. She did SO MUCH of hamming in that liver akhrut vihkrut hota hai drunk scene in Bucket List, oh god! She should've seen how Kangana did her drunk scene in Queen and taken some lessons. She needs to be more natural. Only then will she get thesame kind of appreciation that Sri got in just 2 hindi movies she did post her comeback!

She would look so OTT and deliver a Kalank.
