I used to feel that way. But I think as he gains more traction his star power has increased.
One of the things though is that he doesn't really do any of the typical larger than life hero movies that easily gain star power. Oftentimes I find people are overly focused on the actors when in a lot of cases it is an iconic character that the fans have fallen for.
I think the so-called "neutral" audience this tweet is talking about, are lovers of content and good cinema. Hence, they are not fans per se.
But what I think is he has created a niche for himself and his own version of what we call stardom...Amol Palekar of this generation...
Disagree. I personally think that Ayushmaan has a really good script sense. I prefer to watch his films because I know they are entertaining. I think he is most intelligent among the younger lot in terms of script selection and is ready to take risks.
All of you are reiterating that you are fans of his script choices but very few have said you are fans of HIS...I think that's what the tweet is talking about and clubbing you all as neutral audiences or audiences who love good content!
He is considered a smart actor, and is respected. the audience trusts that whatever film he is in is probably going to be good. and so they watch it. if anything, he is gaining the audiences trust. and this over time, turns into a loyal fanbase with time. So he does have fans based on his prior films.
Waise, trust aur stardom do alag baat hai. Stars move millions of people... love them hate them but you can't ignore them... they have millions of lover millions of haters... Ayushman and Aamir don't have them. These two have earned people's trust by regularly doing movies people love... toh log ussi trust se dekhne jaate hai. SRK is a huge star but he lost people's trust by doing back to back bad movies... now people don't trust him... they decide not to go to theater to watch his movies because they heard some negative reviews. Agar trust karte toh despite negative reviews log theaters mein jaate.
One needs to manipulate people too to retain one's trust. PR or influencers ke wah wahi tab kaam aate hai.

Ayush is 35 going on 36.. so not YOUNGER LOT at all.. not even the 'around' 30 yrs lot..like Tiger/Varun/
He's similar age to Shahid kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor.. right?

On topic:
He's had a hand at doing theatre productions and radio shows for years.
His 12+ years experience in theatre/radio helped his relatively new 3-4 years career in BW..IMO
(I mean he got a 'sense' of script choice.. was near enough to the BW scene to make contacts and meet some up and coming screenwriters..maybe even befriend them... so yeah.. he's reaping the benefits of all that)
