Could Madhuri have played DAMINI's lead role better than Meenakshi ?

I think she would of suited this role better but doesn't matter as sunny deol would of steal stoled the show

No! Madhuri did play a similar role in Lajja but she was not so convincing. Juhi would have done a better job or Sridevi.

Back story....since I followed the drama then😛

Meenakshi was first choice as Raj worked with her in Ghayal and was infatuated with her. Don't know if they dated or not,,, but he did want to marry her. I guess they had a personal tiff and she kept him on hold.

He discussed the movie with Madhuri but later backed out when issue with Meenakshi was sorted out. The latter did say it was an amazing role even on paper and it wasn't common to have strong woman centric films then. Plus she was looking for something to showcase her acting chops.

And Meenkashi gave an AMAZING performance along with a Tandaav dance too. It's too sad that she lost Filmfare that year to Juhi and National Award by a hair's breadth to Dimple for Rudaali. 😒

Madhuri later in one of her IVs said that it was one role in her career she regretted losing out on as she was also very keen on doing it.

Madhuri would have nailed the role obviously. She did an incredibly intense and quite similar role the following year with Anjaam. But Meenakshi immortalised the role, can't see anyone else replacing her.

Apparently she got a Special Filmfare Award (it's on Wikipedia) but not fully confirmed...

Fun fact: Sridevi was the first choice for ghayal. If she had done it maybe sunny would have offered her damini too as he is one of the producers of the film

We have never seen you teaming up with an established actress. What is the reason for the same?
I have never worked with big heroines if you look at my career. I approached Sridevi for Ghayal, she declined the film. I was making another film and approached Aishwarya Rai, but even she refused to work with me. I have approached a lot of big actresses, but none of them agreed to work with me. They refused to work with me may be because they thought ‘It is a male centric film.’

FYI, Madhuri was offered most 90's films on the "first look" basis because everyone wanted to work with her. I hope it doesn't mean you will keep on starting countless threads with unanswerable questions. LMAO

She might have but Meenakshi did a fab job as Damini so it's really difficult to imagine someone else as Damini even Madz.
