Minnie had once asked Babita to remove the Chadda and Khurana surname and dig deep into herself to find out who she really is. Take away the shackles that those surnames provide and learn who Babita is. Then, once upon finding that woman, live out the rest of her life as her. Be Babita without any shame or guilt. Make her own decisions without worrying about what others would think. Craft an identity so unique that no one would dare to question her value anymore.
What Minnie had failed to understand was that Babita finds comfort and security in having a surname attached to her. The Chadda surname gave her a family. The Khurana surname gave her protection. The Singh surname is giving her love and pride.
There is nothing wrong in wanting a surname whether it's your maiden or marital. It's value is dependent on what you make of it, not others.
Minnie, finding shame in the Khurana surname, had legally changed it so that she can call herself Minnie Babita. At the time she had felt immense pride in her Babes for she was carving out an independent name for herself. Given Babita's actions now, does that pride still apply? Or has the Babita surname become meaningless now? What is the value of Babita as a name in Minnie's life?
Ironically, Minnie had encouraged Babita to shed Chadda and Khurana so that she can create an identity just for herself. Yet, by taking on Babita as a surname, Minnie has linked her own personal identity to Babes.
Minnie's transition from Minnie Khurana to Minnie Babita didn't eliminate the relations that were already bestowed upon her through blood. The same concept applies to HS. He is incredibly proud of his grandfather and yet harbors a deep resentment for his father. Despite this, as Naeem Bi had once pointed out, when it comes to proclaiming himself, HS always links himself to both his grandfather and father. Regardless of the trauma that was inflicted on him by his father, HS still keeps him alive whenever he links himself to him. In HS' case, Singh isn't just a surname. It's a very complicated history filled with very complicated characters. As far as we know, the only remaining survivor of the Singh family is HS. Otherwise, everyone related to him by blood are dead.
By Minnie questioning Babita's decision to attach the Singh surname to herself, she is in a way rejecting HS and his family. She doesn't want him or his personal history to be attached to them in any way. I can understand Minnie not wanting Babita to completely lose her own identity, but the manner in which she brought the fact forward in yesterday's precap was very rude and tasteless. She could have had this discussion in private rather than questioning Babita right in front of HS about it.
I hope the episode itself handled the matter better.
Let's see what today's episode has in store for us.
