Hello Friends,
The theme for this week's Retro Caf is......
Gaon Ke Suhaane Geet
The word village infuses in us a feeling of freshness, simplicity and genuineness. The picture that immediately comes to mind is of vast green paddy/rice fields, small little huts, big shady trees, the ringing bells of the baels of the baelgadi, small children playing noisily while their mother are busy filling water from the wells, or doing household chores. The elderly men folk seated under a big banyan tree chatting away, while the cows, buffaloes, goats sheep , hens, ducks ,dogs and cats moving around or grazing away letting their presence known with occasional calls, the sound of the flowing stream as it runs by the rice fields, portrays a simple, earthy and unadulterated beauty of a village. The hardworking villagers put in strenuous hours from dawn to dusk but come night, the whole village would get together in the centre, lighting up the place with their brightness, laughter cheer and celebrations.
The villages don't have the basic amenities that we are used to in cities, but the unpolluted air, the feel of mystic freshness, the genuine warmth and caring nature of the villagers make up for the lack of it. They don't have the latest gadgets or the material wealth, yet they seem content. They don't have internet or cell phones to stay connected with the world, but are still well informed about one another and for them, their village is their world. They don't have 100 different channels entertaining them, but still they are entertained. Every occasion in their lives, is celebrated in the presence of the whole village and for every little occasion they have a song to sing and dance to. They have kept our ethnic culture and traditions alive.
Many of us may not have been to a village and the picture that we perceive is from what we have seen in films. Through our films songs based on villages , we occasionally get to sample the taste of our ethnic culture, traditions, rituals, customs and folk music.
In this retro we will take a trip down the narrow village lanes and touch base with those songs that acquainted us with villages and the villagers
On wednesday then we shall all meet right here on this thread at the Retro time, and listen to our favourite show.....
