Soulmate:- n. a person ideally suited to another as a close friend or romantic partner

That would be the dictionary definition of the word. A term severely misunderstood but extensively overused. Nonchalantly thrown at every other romantic relationship out there, it’s unfortunate that the word, so profound, has been reduced to a cliche, prince-meets-princess-and-happily-ever-after concept. Then what exactly is a 'soulmate'? With literally thousands of definitions and interpretations through the course of several centuries, there isn't really an agreed upon standard. However the following quote comes close to defining the concept as something that I personally, have always believed in.

“A soulmate is an ongoing connection with another individual that the soul picks up again in various times and places over lifetimes. We are attracted to another person at a soul level not because that person is our unique complement, but because by being with that individual, we are somehow provided with an impetus to become whole ourselves."

-Edgar Cayce

Their Story...

A girl abandoned by both her parents and a family she used to call her own, found herself embraced by the two people she now considers her parents. Forced to learn to make a place for herself among people who were a family without her. Going through every single day, trying and repeatedly failing to assure her roommate, once her closest friend, that she wasn’t trying to take her place. Having to listen to the constant reminders and perpetual taunts on how she never belonged, would never truly be a daughter of the house, she grew up knowing exactly where she stood with her new family. A daughter to only her Bade Papa and Badi Maa, a daughter-equivalent to some and an outsider to others. Her eternal aspiration to find a place where she truly belonged, to create an identity she could call her own. A girl who had been taught to make her own decisions, used to fighting her own battles, big and small, understood the value of independence. Always pragmatic in dealing with situations, she was quick to realize, happily-ever-afters were guaranteed only in tales. Prince Charming did not hold the allure, he once did. The concept of lifelong companionship more daunting than reassuring. Her only expectation from her partner in life was trust and understanding. That was until, Abir.

A boy who had lost his father, his closest friend and role model, suddenly found himself living among the myriad of unanswered questions and endless secrets that had made their permanent place in the house they called his home. Learning to recognize the masks and look through the facade, he discovered the manipulative and selfish persona that was his mother’s true identity. Unwilling in becoming a part of the charade, he quickly took on the responsibility of being the only sane voice in the family. No longer having the privilege of being a child, he adapted to playing the role of the older brother and best friend to his younger brother. Suffocated by all the pretense and scared of getting lost among the secrets threatening to engulf and erase his identity, he chose to take flight, never staying put, getting lost and finding himself amidst the plethora of undiscovered and under-appreciated. Failing to find solace in the place they called home, he turned towards the almighty for comfort. In pursuit of the answers to the ever-increasing questions, he discovered the ability to truly see the abundance of soul-stirring and awe-inspiring experiences always around and often overlooked. Learning to appreciate the unfamiliar as much as the mundane. Through every chance he grasped, every encounter that moved him, he grew, instilling in him the belief in faith, destiny and love. Becoming a wanderer, preferring the company of his own, never really finding a good enough reason to stop. That was until, Mishti.

She found in him a friend, a confidante and a companion. Someone that understood her, trusted her and stood by her, lending her the support and comfort every time she needed it, without her having to seek it. Teaching her to not be afraid, to embrace life, to always take that chance and to stop second guessing her decisions. His unwavering belief in her, despite the worst odds, re-instilling the confidence that had been chipped away by the incessant taunts and abuse thrown her way for years.

He found in her, his inspiration, his partner, his best friend. The one person he found himself wanting to learn more about, someone that he admired and looked up to, someone who finally believed in the same truth that he did and more importantly someone who stood for it. An open book, an uncorrupted soul, illuminating and strong. The brightest light, lending the colors to his canvas, she brought the answers to all his questions. The ultimate destination to his long quest.

Mishti found her place, her home

and Abir, his reason to stay, his anchor.

Together they learnt to give and take,

to ask and answer.

They were different yet equals.

They were 2 wholes but complete only when united.

They were Mishbir.

This is Mishbir as I see and understand them. Let me know what you think of it, if you agree or even disagree. Thank you for reading. Have a wonderful day/night.

Woah... very very well written post.Congratulations dear.👏

I am so glad that i didn't miss this post. First of all thank you very much for describing the meaning of soulmate. That definition has lots of depth into it.

I am not very good in expressing,I can only say that Mishbir are made for each other. For Mishti,Abir's love is the solution to all her problems. For Abir,Mishti is like a simple and beautiful home where he can stay happily leaving his banjara life forever.

Mushkile toh bahut aayengi, par ush par ek sundar sa ghar he banana.I loved this sayari of Abir which he said during the proposal time.

Well said Misaki !

Since you wrote about writing views...

I don't know whether the concept of soulmates really exists or not...or is just used for the glamourous hype of the love stories around, but souls do exist and if one soul is able to connect with other in such a way that that the two individuals can rise together for the good... keeping the wisdom intact..that for me is love in the purest form ...

The "I love you" isn't the destination but the start to the amazing journey of growing together...when I say growing together ...it means a never ending life long process ... it's not about we completed each other...it's about we will be always complimenting each other ...the "I will always keep you loving" is the journey and the destination itself

And I am glad that their journey is making them learn ...come out stronger every time and grow out of it ...the day they will be able to reach the stage where they will share anything and everything under the sun without any censorship .. without the fear of being judged ...that will be the ultimate level of comfort any individual can ever have !!

True love always makes you rise in life and not fall...and if you fall ...make sure you introspect is it "love"or simply the "greed of love" ?

And when you know you have found one... never let it go...a lesson learnt by mishbir !!

Words fails me when it comes to appreciating the beauty of this post. You have captured the true essence of Mishbir so thank you for that🤗 Because I am short of time I am reproducing some of the things I have already written for Mishbir

.....

The right kind of love

The concept of love has always fascinated me. I am an avid reader, so I have frequently dealt with the perception of love depicted in stories. As a child Disney movies and fairytales taught us that true love’s kiss could solve all your problems and all that you needed was a prince charming in your life who said things you needed to hear. So, the idea of love derived from these stories was that it needed to be expressed in intimate gestures and through words. For ages I held on to this concept of love in many ways I became like Kuhu I was so much in love with the idea of love that I stopped looking past the three words said to me by another person. I stopped looking at the person for what they were and just hung on to their words. However, I painfully realized that this was not real love rather it was just a mere infatuation. For love that is real needs not to be expressed through words or intimacy it needs to be felt it needs to be expressed through actions. It simply became what Abir said to Naanu once “Main Misthi se I love you bolne say pehlay uss ko yay yakeen dilana chatha hoon kay main hamesha uss ka saath dunga” and in this episode he stayed true to his words and showed it through his actions .Words are just mere words unless they are backed up by actions and intimacy is not just fulfilling each other’s physical needs but also to fulfill each other’s emotional needs. It is baring your soul to someone and expecting and hoping that they will love you in spite of your flaws. Love is when someone loves all of you not the perfect you but the real you that is imperfect. Sometimes love is showing up for people even when they expect you not to show up. Sometimes it is to make the other person feel that you will always be there for them. Sometimes when the whole world turns its back on a person you still believe in them because they are your person. Sometimes love creeps up in quiet moments when you believe that you are all alone but than a hug makes you feel you are finally home. When someone’s arms became your save haven and just for a moment you let your guard down because you know that the other person will not let you fall. When everything else is falling apart but that one person holds you together that one person gives you the hope that things will eventually get better. For love is not giving up on someone even when they feel like giving up on themselves. That is what love is for Mishbir and that’s the reason I adore them so passionately because their love for each other is so pure so honest that no words can do justice to it.

-------

Pain

They say that abandonment is a wound that never heals. I say only that an abandoned child never forgets.

Mario Balotelli

Another common theme that links AM together is pain. They have both been abandoned by their fathers at an early age. When we come in to this world our parents our the first exposure we have to the real world. Naturally parents are supposed to nurture us and love us unconditionally but if the same parents one day decide to leave for whatever reason they permanently scar the child they are leaving behind. Abir once said “Baap jab bachpa main chod kar jata hain toh saath bachpan bhi lay jaati hain” the small child is forced to grow up and deal with the harsh realities of life. This betrayal comes from someone the child looks up to and it hurts so much to be left behind that you stop believing that for someone you are enough that for someone you are worth staying for. Misthi’s wounds run deeper because her mother left her for someone else and even her grandmother refused to take her responsibility. She starts living in the Masheswari household and is placed under the loving care of her Bade Papa and Badi Maa who leave no stone unturned to make sure she has a comfortable life. However, she feels like she is a burden/bhoj on them as characters like Jasmeet and Kuhu keep reminding her of her adopted status. The difference between Misthi and Abir is that Misthi knows how to deal with her pain. She cries for a bit but than dusts herself up and moves forward Abir though has managed to conceal his pain really well and he has buried it really deep within himself in a way that for him “Dard toh dost purana hain”. He ignores his own pain by trying to help other people and by making them smile but he has no one who asks him if he needs support no one who bothers too see if he is really okay. Both Mish and Abir are surrounded by people but they still feel alone. Pain is the reason they meet again for the second time amongst those temple ruins. That day Abir tells her a very profound thing “Upar walay ki awaaz hamesha upar say nahi aah ti. Kabhi kabhi who kisi aur ko bhej dayta hain kisi ko humrahi madad karnay ki. Ho sakta hain kay upar walay nay mujay aap ki problem solve karnay kay liay bheja hain yay phir app ko meri. In short upar wala hum dono ki help kar raha hain” These lines are so deep and so true. Sometimes God helps us in mysterious ways and often in way in which we don’t expect. He tells her that maybe God has sent him in her life to help her or vice versa and in this way God is helping them both. Unknowingly Misthi misplaces her earring that day but he picks it up and keeps it safe he muses that this earring signifies” Humarhi qismat main phir say milan likha hain” and how apt was that. The whole sequence is beautiful. In midst of the temple ruins two pain-ridden individuals heal each other a bit unexpectedly. How beautifully has fate interweaved these two strangers together.

A/N: Have written loads more on them if you have time do share your thoughts.

Thank you so much for the compliment on the writing. Always happy to read such nice things on something I'm trying to work hard on. I'm happy you seem to agree with everything I feel about these two beautiful people and their journey so far, individually and together.

They are incredibly inspiring and absolutely beautiful. I have never fallen so in love with both the individual characters and their love almost equally. Kudos to the creative team of YRHPK for being able to create such amazing characters and their journey together. They really were meant to meet and fall in love.

Thank you for leaving me this wonderful comment and sharing your views on Mishbir!🤗

Single word....wowww. Definitely agree with you about the meaning of soulmates and adaptation to mishbir. They are bonded by pain, healing each other by being themselves around each other without any pretensions
