Why there is "Best Actor" and "Best Actress" award?

Pick any award show from any industry. There is one best actor and one best actress award. But why? There is no best male or female director award, neither there is for any the category . So why when it comes to actors, we have to separate the gender, even for supporting and debutante award.

Acting is not a sport where men get the biological advantage, so why we can't have one award for best performance?

Because of the huge difference in roles in makes and females.. directors have to do the same thing, irrespective of genders.. the roles and therefore the acting is not same

There is separate gender based category for singers too

Well, there is difference in every role. Rani in Queen is different than Piku. Salman in Dabangg is different than SRK in Chennai Express. Performances are never same unless its a remake

best male and female singers to hote hain na bhai .

Writers and directors should be given more recognition in awards.
